It's almost done, Almost everything is finally ordered, just some little things here and there, particularly a standalone.

Um, I ran into a little snag and I need some help. I decided to wire up my speed sensor and it would appear...there is none. There's a plate on top of the differential housing, inside is a big empty space and I can see a little bit of a plastic gear sticking out. I'm aware that that plastic gear is connected to the differential and it's supposed to drive another plastic gear on the speed sensor.

The problem is, where can I find the correct sensor to go in that hole?

Apparently some Altima SE-R's come with a speedometer pinion since there's a part number for one in FAST.

Yea, I just got mine in from Greg Vogel. The plate type is what I had, the Pinion type is what I needed. It was only $22 new so I bought it and it's now in place.

That plate is just a cover for the hole. Most 6-speed equipped nissan get the VSS signal from the ABS speed output.

soon, I'm saving up for the rest of the stuff. I still have bearings to press and hubs to drill for now.

To do:
hubs, spindles, control arms, bushings, reassemble.
radiator
bigger fuel pump
little more powdercoating
test all electrical equipment (battery's currently dead...oops)
full standalone and wiring
still need to find a B15 clutch petal b/c the maxima petal doesn't fit my car well (cable to hydraulic conversion).
Switches to start and run the car.

a few new items done:

Fuel rails and lines are done, I'm just waiting on a gauge adapter. All AN fittings, set up with Nismo FPR which will be set at 51psi:

Finished the throttle body and cable holder. Word of advice, PLEASE don't tell people to go out and get the Pathy TB, I just paid $230 for one and it will now sit in my garage until the end of time. Converting the Electronic one over is MMMMUUUCCCHHH better:

Back from the dead. Car's still down but plenty of updates. Should be done by mid-fall.

Fuel system is done (minus a 255lph fuel pump)

TB installed, painted black, going to use the long stock cable:

seems like a lot of work for something thats already been done. how much heavier is a a32 over a b14? for the ease of the vq35 swap into a a32...i'll eat the 400lb difference or whatever it is, and make up for it with money saved from putting it in a a32 by supercharging it.

good project though. hope you finish it and get it running.

You'll have to explain the "Already been done" part. I know of several SpecVs that have done it, but never a B14. Russell/Mazworx (locals of mine) attempted to do the swap into a 200sx, they gave up when they realized regulations wouldn't allow a 3.5. I also know of someone in PR doing the swap into a B13. He's put the project on hold as he's currently living in the states.

The B15s respond very well, running about 12.5-12.9 with no mods to the engine or the car. The B14s and B15s are both designed to share similar weighted engines, both chassis' house the SR20DE. If the B15 responds well to a 3.5, I can't see the B14 being any better or worse. Add in the fact that the the VQ35 is the lightest engine in its class, it's actually lighter than an SR20DET setup is you neglect the weight difference of the flywheel and transmission (up to 30lbs increase).

Oh, I also have no power steering, no A/C, 50lbs of wiring/relays has been pushed back significantly towards the rear of the car. The Battery's in the trunk, oh, and the rear has been stiffened. I anticipate the weight of my car to be relatively unchanged, the weight ratio should remain relatively unchanged as well.

Here's some proof:

313lbs for a VQ35 w/o external accessories, not sure if this includes the flywheel or not. An equally equipped SR20DE is between 295 and 305lbs. If you don't believe me, look it up on SR20forum. Here's a decent thread:http://www.sr20forum.com/general-sr2...r20-weigh.html It gets a little silly near the end tho.

The transmission probably makes up the most difference but once again, it's compensated by a complete A/C delete, audio system delete, PS delete, battery relocation, 100% custom wiring harness, mostly pushed back behind the firewall including all fuses and relays. And technically, I didn't have to do any of that for the car to still handle fine, the B15 takes the engine like a champ.

My only problem will be traction, it's enough torque to melt my tires. The car will most likely be taking some 215/40 Azenis for most driving and track events. Some wide slicks and possibly spacers for the 1/4mi.

the b15's run a 12.9 with slicks stock. if youre talking about travis. the guy with nitrous also ran a 12.9...they cant hook up. unless its happened in the past 5 months, none of them have run a 12.5. im registered to the vboard since 2003. i have a b15 spec v, thats where my 3.5 was initially suppose to go...but it pointless because its a ****load of work with no real gains when an a32 runs a mid 13 with a 3.5 engine and a b15 runs a 13 flat with the same engine. for .5 seconds id rather not have my car down for 6 months or so.

my a32 took a week to do this swap taking my time. with a/c, p/s, leather, heated seats...and ill still run a mid 13....oh and its my daily...if i wanted to go to the track ill take my 78 porsche 911 slantnose...thats a real track car.

looks like your doing it right, and im complimenting you, i just see a lot of waste time and money in my opinion. but im sure when its done it will be badass. good luck with it. hope you get it done soon. i have some extra **** from my 3.5 swap into my sentra that you could use...nothing crazy since i sold most of it. hit me up.

The one B15 I saw firsthand does run 12.9 on slicks. I saw it about 2-3 years ago at a local Nissan meet. I’m sure it was built by Travis, but I’m also sure he wasn’t driving it. The engine was bone stock, maybe a WAI. No VTC, nothing. The car had full accessories and at least 300lbs on me.

I’m quite sure there are at least 5 in existence today, I’ve seen several from Travis since then, I also know he was working on 1 or 2 of them at the time I was asking him for advice, he bought some of the stuff I wasn’t using. I’d assume they’ve gotten down to 12.5 and they’re still much heavier than me.

CAI, Headers, Dual exhaust, AEM EMS, plenty of dyno tuning out of the box. My car should only be about 2400lbs or so. Later on, I’ll check out some JWT cams and possibly a Kinetix I.M. I don’t like spray, to me, it’s fake hp, iono. By the time I’m finished we’re looking at low 12s, high 11s N/A. Should be amazing on the roadcourse with some suspension tweaks, one reason I like back-heavy 4-doors.

The car retains a G20 black leather interior with full dash, panels, Power windows/locks, etc. I lus took out the A/C and PS.

I Laugh at anyone who calls it a waste of money. Let’s see you crack into the 11s under my budget. Let’s see you do it N/A. Let’s see it attract a crowd. The front clip was only $2700. If I weren’t obsessed with having the best, it’d be running by now. Additionally, I’d rather wait for the money to come in than rack up high-interest bills. I’ve got all the time in the world. I’m a little anxious, but I got a Daily that I enjoy driving.

BTW, I don’t see any reason I couldn’t make it a Daily Driver. I just don’t trust the police or the other drivers around here.\

Why would someone call this a waste of time... modding any car is a waste of time

Kudos on the ingenuity of this project... what mounts did you have to change? What axles are you using? Why not just get the Maxima harness + ECU? Just curious. I can't wait to see this in action, I can't imagine the fear I'd have in my heart hearing a VQ'd little Sentra...

Was the SR20 an iron block? How's it as heavy as a VQ?

That is an awesome project man, definitely keep the .org updated. Although I don't like the paintjob idea, I think you should stick to one of those two colors and not try a two-tone job like that. Get something low profile so you can surprise the **** out of people.
