AE Mod & Amber corner light 5th Gen
Inspired by Jsutter. I AE'd the headlights and painted the inside of the lens amber. At first I PHOTOSHOPPED the amber part...and kinda liked the way it
looked... so here are the results.... gotta finish up the other side... but you get the picture.
PHOTOSHOP TEST
After the process....

anyways, no problem....
its pretty simple how to do it....
1. take out your headlight. There are two bolts to take out. its
on top of the headlight.
2. pull the headlight out, and try to pop out by the side corner light.
3. once out. remove the screws. there are three small ones on the back of
your light. on the side by the outter edge (two) and one near that side on the
back of your headlight.
4. remove the bulb and rubber backing of the headlight socket.
===========
5. Time to bake. Set oven at 250.
6. Place headlight on cookie sheet and warm it up for like 10-15mins.
be sure to wear gloves (now, I am not sure about the whole fumes or plastic toxic issue, but I still use the oven to bake a chicken the next day, up to you)
7. With the lights warmed up, take out headlight and start prying apart the
lights where the black part and clear front meet (i used a flat head screwdriver). You will see tabs. lift the
tabs and start pulling apart. It should be fairly easy since the sealant is
warm and soft. *** it is VERY STICKY**
8. once apart, keep the black back part in a safe place.
9. Next, take the front clear part, and remove the two screw on the bottom.
10. separate the chrome part from the clear lens.pull from the side tab o release that side first and them pull out the rest of the chrome part.
11. tape up the part you DONT want to paint on the chrome housing.
** note I masked the entire side area for the chrome part. to maximize the
light output... some people just paint it... to me it looks a little off (IMHO). I try to keep my mods looking factory,OEM.
12. Mask off the part that you dont want to paint on the clear lens and then start painting.
13. **** TEST THE COLOR FROM TIME TO TIME. Color will get orange once you put everything back together. ****
KRYLON Stain Glass paint. - yellow for corners.... now it take ALOT of coats, just take your time to paint and dont rush it. to good thing about painting INSIDE that it comes out looking glossy and shiny WITHOUT any clear.
14. Low gloss enamel to black out the chrome housing. Its just easier to paint than to rub off the chrome. I like the satin look also.
15. be sure to clay in the inside and polish after your done to make sure you have a clean looking lens. The worst thing is to do a s***ty job.
16. reheat them in the oven after they completely dry... wait till they are really dry, paint may give off residue fumes they "might" fog up your lens.
17. NO NEED TO SILICONE IT. just take your time. theres plenty of sealant if you do it right.

Heres another example of the AE MOD with Smoked corners (painted inside) with VHT spray tint.

the amber looked WEIRD on my grey luster.... might take pics just for fun.
a bit awkward cuz of my smoked theme.

Awesome job... but I'm not feelin it.
Maybe it's the side marker throwing it off. Maybe if there was some kind of black trim around it. Maybe if it wasn't on a pearl white color car. Maybe... just maybe.
