Well, that's it!

Yup, it's the end of my Maxima modding career. At least for now. The car is being demodded starting this weekend. The 00VI is coming off, the VAFC is being removed, intake is being removed, etc. Car is being returned to totally stock other than the y-pipe, headlights/corners, and stuff like the interior LEDs. I may have some fun with it down the road, but for right now I just wanted to enjoy a near-stock, quiet, comfortable car like the one I remember buying 3 years ago. It's been fun, and the car has been great. I have no doubt it's going to be a fun daily driver at least for a couple more years.

Anyway, here's been the last 3 years:

Smart decision, gas is too expensive to be modding.

Fr33way™ Jun 1, 2008 11:30 PM

Dang. I know what you mean though, rolling around in the I30 is nice (leaves you alone) where as the Max is much more unforgiving (ACT clutch/500lb springs/filled mounts etc...) Just keep your logic around the forums please...

I'm not going anywhere ;) Besides, I have plans for this car. I just want it mostly stock for a while. I just want a comfortable, quiet, reliable car that I can jump in and enjoy. I'm sick of my exhaust, I'm sick of fixing stuff, etc. The most joy I think I ever got out of my car was when it was completely bone stock. Of course I was 16 and it was my first car, but still :p

To the gas comments, I don't actually pay for my own gas :nervous: Call me spoiled, I don't care. My parents are likely to start making me pay for it though the amount of running around I do, and it's no fun having to fill up every week. I want the 500 miles-to-a-tank gas mileage back on long trips!

i hear yah. i remember when my mom first give me this car, had absolutely no issues other than minor maintenance. now, its just hell. need to fix this, that, and buy, buy, buy. i enjoy it...somewhat, but it can be stressful.

and my right foot has been quiet lately b/c of high gas prices....

Yeah. Sometimes simple is better. Modding is so fun though :D

My right foot has been shut up as well. I managed to get 27 MPG this weekend with about 80% highway driving, and that's with no EGR or working O2 sensors, so I think I am doing pretty good. This little engine and tranny combo never ceases to amaze me.

Yeah, I'm going to try and make it to some Lancaster events this summer. Always good times. The headlights, corners, interior stuff, and most of the exhaust is staying on the car (I love the headlights too much to get rid of them and the stock exhaust was basically gone when I put the new stuff on). The car may look a little different next time you see it though ;)

I hear ya...I took off my loud Greddy years ago and im so glad I did. I put the stock muffler back on and its been such a nicer driving experience. I also put the old air box back in and took out my CAI. Nice n quiet...the only thing i wouldn't return back to stock is the suspension.

You read my mind. I will have a stock intake on (right down to the snorkel and silencers), at the very least putting a larger resonator on in place of the current one (I do like the tone of my muffler, it's just loud), and I am lowering the car finally I think on a *mild* setup to retain comfort.

irish44j Jun 3, 2008 06:16 PM

:gotme:

my max handles better than stock
rides better than stock
is faster than stock
drives more solidly than stock
is more comfortable than stock
oh, and my exhaust isn't any louder than stock

mods and a comfortable, quiet car are not mutually exclusive ;)

UGH I HATE my greddy. Its sounds way to loud... I wish I could have got an Apexi WS2 I think, its the quietest one they make. Ohh well. I got maybe like 2 more years with the car before I move on and buy some Inifinti...

Right. Except that I'm a poor college student who's been told he's got to pay for a bunch of stuff with what was going to be expendable summer job money. I have to make compromises :( If I could do it the way I wanted, my car would be in the same boat as yours.

Caracicatriz Jun 4, 2008 04:42 AM

when I get the modding bug I just change out my corners. I have clear/tinted/orange. It's easy and doesn't cost me anything. I've tried several times to give up modding, but it's just too damn addictive.

i have the ws2. its a bit tooo quiet. almost like stock. i personally think it could be a bit louder. i just don't enjoy it as much. but for autocrosses and what not, i just go open exhaust :D :hide:

Haha yeah, g4nismo already called it. I definitely recommend getting one, though. I just don't have the desire for it right now, I'd rather my money was elsewhere.

Tatanko Jun 5, 2008 05:34 PM

Nice and painted and ready to go on the car :naughty::

Nope :( Plus the manifold was pretty dirty looking (I cleaned it before I painted it, but it still looked like crap), so I figured I'd clean it up a little bit with a nice coat of paint.

Tatanko Jun 21, 2008 02:01 PM

Well, the manifold is off and everything is back to stock there. All that's left non-stock in the engine bay is a cone filter and the HID equipment :D I'm undecided as to whether I will put the stock intake back on. I forgot how cool the intake sounds with the stock manifold (that mechanical growl) so I may put the stock intake back on just to keep my right foot at bay from wanting to hear it.

I get maybe 400 miles per tank on long trips... but then again I do not drive the speed limit :nervous:

Around town I'm driving really tame, I mean mild throttle and shifting at 2k with only the occasional downshift to have a bit of fun, and I still get <20mpg :(

I kind of like cracking the intake box, it makes the car a bit slower presumably but when I gun it once in a blue moon it is more satisfying and seems to tide me over for longer. :D

Tatanko Jun 21, 2008 04:36 PM

I did put it back on earlier. Car is pretty quiet other than the muffler. It's the first time the snorkel has been on in about 3 years...

Haha you bet. About all that's left that isn't cosmetic is the y-pipe and cat-back, and I may yet put an A33 muffler on or something to quiet it down.

max95q Jun 22, 2008 06:22 AM

check your pm's
