my newish toy, nonmax

so heres my new toy, its an 89 sho, picked it up cheap cause, well its a 89taurus. the old owner had the clutch and flywheel replaced and upgraded with those from a 95 sho, which makes them much more robust, and best of all brand new. altho it still uses a cable style shifter so gears can be a tad hard to find at times.

as u can see i had a little fun with flat black paint. im just having fun with the car, its an ugly car so its nice to just be carefree and just do what i want., that and the rims were just beyond the ability to clean so i just painted them

the old owner forget to tell me that the rear swaybar endlink on the pass side had rusted off so i had them replaced with poly units, and the car handles pretty well. and since the tires were gettign old a new set of kumhos were needed. and i had an extra fstb laying around so i modded that a bit to work.

the mufflers rusted to the point that i wasnt sure if they were going to fall off while driving so i just removed them for the time being, its loud as he!! but the cops havent said anything about it any of the times ive gotten pulled over.

other than that all ive really doen to it is a 80mm maf and a K&N cone filter, i would call it a wai but i removed everything around the filter including the fender lining so it does get lots of fresh cool air. i also replced the coil pack with one off a 3.2l sho motor and a new thermostat

i pulled off the ac system cuise control sound deadening in the doors and a fullly gutted trunk. the heavy stock jbl system was replace with 4 pioneers i had laying around and a basic pioneer deck form my old saturn. the rear bumper support is currently removed to save nearly 65lbs off the a$$ of the car. not sure what im going to do with that. theyre no fog lights cause they were broken and heavy, i just hooked the fogs to the clearance lights for a little added squirrel spotting ability when traveling down dark county roads

basiclly i just use it as a beater, since i put my max into storage(i ship off to afganistan on the 30th), its fun, kinda quick, it nearly held up against my modded 00. and handles alright. too bad the brakes are beyond sad stock, ive got a bbk for a 96 sho going on when i get the chance(prob a year from now), 10.2inch to 11.6. that should help a bit. other than that ill prob swap a set of eibach/tokicos form my old sho and an ac delete pulley. not sure its a fun car but still a pos, but everythign works great exp one of the door locks.

thanks for looking. i know its a pos, but i like it anyway(keeps my mind off the army, and i kinda used it to teach my wife stick), i think its a good stablemate to my 00 and my wifes new 95 se 5spd maxima. not sure it this should be my embarassing car or if that honor should still be held by my saturn

thanks for looking.

actually parts arent as bad anymore, ive been modding shos for a number of years and parts have gotten alot more reasonable. and most of what u need u can get from junkyards, or depending on what it is off a regular taurus.

as far as the weight goes, thats why i like the 89 so much, no airbags, abs, tcs, or anything like that, even fully equiped ur looking at less than 3200lbs, and most fo the stucc can be removed if ur just using it as a fun can like i did. its the later ones,93-95 that got up to 3600lbs with all the emissions and auto trans and such

ghostmax, love those robocop cars, i dint even know thats the car they used til recently, my other sho is a dark gray chalkboard, it looks just like the movie cars.

theyre so ugly, but really fun to drive
