(Non Maxima) My Beast

Picked her up a couple weeks ago. Shes a 2000 BMW M5. Alpine White, on Silverstone/Black leather. Shes fully loaded, with pretty much every imagineable option, i wish it had cooled seats though. 394HP/369TQ, has insane power stock, which of course, isnt enough for me

It has 20" wheels, which arent bad, but i think i will step it down to 19's with a little more sidewall, seeing as i almost bent one rim after 3 days of ownership. Any suggestions? Im thinking of HRE's 19x9F, 19x10.5 in the back. Right now im at 20x8.5F, 20x10R with 245/30/20F, 285/25/20R Falken FK452s. Enough talking, here are some pics!

Love it. My next car will either be a 2003 alpine M5 or a new audi S5....the BMW will obviously drive better but damn I love audi interiors. I thought the widescreen nav started in 2001?

Out of curiosity: what does it rev at around 70 or 80 mph?

Hehe. Thats the best part. my maxi at 60mph was kickin around at 2500rpm. The M at 80mph is around 2500-2600rpm. I know at 60MPH im around 2000rpm. Those new S5's look amazing, especially at night!!

Widescreen did start in 2001. It has been upgraded. The 4:3 Screens are so ugly and make the cars interior seem so outdated.

As for everyone else. The wheels arent too bad, personally im not a big chrome guy, the car can pull them off, but a set of 19" BBS LM's or HRE's would look way better. Just have to find someone to pawn these off on. On a side note, i think im going to step it up to 295's on the back, because 285's i can break loose pretty easily at any speed in first gear. Even going into second it gets sideways

Wow. Great find. I love BMW's. There is a black one just like yours at my local track that runs low 12's with only a few mods. Have fun with it.

Nice M5, I agree with G4 and get rid of those rims. If I were you, I go for either BBS or M6 rims. And do I see tapes in the 3rd picture? Upgrade that soon too! Congrads on the M5

Yeah that's why I love my maxima. 2400 rpms at 80 mph. My bimmer is spinning 3500 at the same speed!

The S5's certainly are amazing. It's a tough choice, but I'm leaning more toward the M5. I know quite a bit about BMWs and even though the maintenance would be less on a new audi, the M is considerably cheaper...

I agree; I also think the seats with the vertical stitching look out-dated. The interior you have is the one I would want, although I'd paint the woodgrain.

thats an epic ride...I remember when they first came out...everyone was oogling at how the yellow markings on the tach turned off as the engine warmed up...how many clicks on it?

Yeah, its nice to be able to drive on the freeway at 80mph and still retain good mileage. My maxima at 80 was knockin 3500rpm too! The S5 is a beautiful car, while pricey, id be tossed up, for me, the M5 made too much sense, i needed a 4dr, i wanted rwd, 6spd manual and a something fast out of the box. This thing meats all those requirements, and exceeds most of them! Gas mileage is kinda crappy, im averaging about 16-17mpg, i just did a bunch of maintenence, so i should be up to the 18-19mpg range, which sadly enough is the same as my maxima got.

Yes those are tapes. Nothing beats some old school micheal jackson. I was testing the tape player with some old tapes that were my dads. I know thriller came out 7 years before i was born LOL!

The woodgrain isnt that bad. Personally, i am going to swap it out for some Titanium trim in, right now im focusing on getting her up and running 100%. Already done Cam Sensors x2, MAFS, Plugs, Fuel filter, Airfilters, Oil seperators. Whoever said a BMW is expensive to drive must not be familiar with Nissans prices for parts. BMW's honestly, are not that much more expensive to own, aslong as you can do your own work. Doesnt matter where you go, you take any car to the stealer and your going to get bent over, and i work at one!

Thanks for the compliments, shes my new baby/beast. The car has 118K miles or 193,000KM. Kinda high, On M5board, shes around the mid-high average in terms of mileage. Most people on there are between 80-110K.

These are pretty good cars, if you buy one make sure there is some documentation on history. check the oil! These things burn oil, naturally. It is a hand built engine, the pre 01's (03/00) have a different rings which cause them to consume oil. BMW states 1 liter per 1000km is fine, im averaging half a liter every 1700KM. They need BMW 10w60 which is pricey too. I am using Mobil 1 15w50 for now!

That's what I tell everyone, too. The parts for my BMW have all been well below what the same parts would have cost me for my maxima....However, they are a pain in the @$$ to work on! haha. Just to change the o2 sensor I had to remove the exhaust! Everything just fits so tight together, it makes it hard to take apart. Your engine looks even worse! lol. Half of it is tucked underneath the firewall. It's still well worth it, though

That thing has a tape player in it? Why are you listening to tapes anyway?

haha, yeah its behind the navi screen, theres a button you press and it flips down to access the tape player. Funny story, but me and my dad were going through a bunch of stuff in the basement, we came across a bunch of his old tapes that he use to listen to before cd's came out. Hes like, i wonder how it sounds in your bmw? so we put them in, kinda quiet, and i guess over time the highs dont play very well, but thriller and PYT sounded pretty good haha. he also gave me a tape for "doug and the slugs" lol. 20 years of existance, and ive never heard of them LOL.

Hehe, sending my ECU out end of this week to get reflashed! There are a few dyno's of people picking up 20WHP! On a fully stock motor, they claim 11hp, 10wtq. Good enough for me, im mostly doing it because throttle response with sport mode off sucks. Oh and knowing that i can go past 260KMH would be nice!

Little late to the thread. Don't care for the wheels or wood grain very much, but either way I'm jealous E39 M5 FTW!

Please dump the wheels immediately, but yes I hate you.

Any reason for the upgrade? Graduate or something?

Well wheels will be gone soon! Im trying to locate a set of stock wheels, if not i found a set of HRE 547 19x9F 19x10.5 in the back. Rears will be 285/30/19, fronts im not sure, i might try run 275's if i can. If not 245/35/19 will do.

The woodgrain is not that bad, honestly, i didnt like it at first, its grown on me, i would like it out for some Titanium trim, but $400 for trim is kinda steep when i could drop 400$ on an X-pipe to top off my Tubi rumore exhaust i just picked up

I graduated 3 years ago from high school :P I completed my first year apprenticeship the year after. I loved my maxima, but i was getting tired of it, FWD is good and all, but its just no comparison to RWD. I just wanted a new car, i had my maxima for almost 4 years.

My only criteria was:
4 doors
6 spd manual
V8 or TT I6 i needed low end torque
rear wheel drive/all wheel drive

The M5 fit the bill, ive always loved them, its been my realistic dream car since they came out in 2000 when i was a young lad, i think secretly i based my criteria directly around the M5 though ;P

First off, very nice car! I would definitely try and get some stockers if I had your car. I've always loved BMW wheels, so many to choose from!
