Drunkie's GTP

So the truck took a dump and I dumped it, fluids came out of everywhere once I made it to New York with it. So I bought this beauty....

So its a 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP, feels good and pulls much harder then a 2002-2003 Maxima (which I looked at). Its got about 75k miles on it but its fully loaded (that Monsoon system won me over compared to the bose). I ended up landing this for $8k and I pay about $185/month now. I plan to do a few things to make it mine (pulley, ecu, front powerlog, downpipe, mufflers, tint, stereo, front lip, some paint, HID Projectors, LEDs). This will be my DAILY DRIVER PERIOD. Nothing more then that. I am now working on a side project (there will be a thread in Southeast section), to decide what my next build will be for under $4,000

Having now put 1,000 miles on it already...(went up to canada), this car is worlds better then my maxima ever was, hate to say that, but its the truth. The steering feel and handling and everything else, just makes this car worlds better. I know there is an age difference, but the different suspension setup makes it even better then my maxima even with its mods. There is alot that can be said here between the two, but hands down the Pontiac wins versus the maxima.

Looks like a decent car

interior looks like crap, like they really wanted to cut the cost of the car, so they used recycled hamburger wrappers to make it.

Chromey wheel sould be sold as soon as you can get some good wheels.

Gauges looks good, I like that look.

a double din touch screen headunit would look nice installed.

does it have an independant rear? or multi link like the max?

What jooo doing up in Canada
You should have went to Harveys to eat

I love that place

how quick are the gear changes when you use the padles? and mods to speed up the up and down gear changes?

now that I think about it, get some new wheels but keep the chromies for the winter...

Yeah Interior plastic isn't great, but the car is really a nice place to be still, its quiet, firm and comfortable. I really like this car alot, especially when you step on the gas...these dyno at 250whp+ (stock)...

Independant rear

chrome wheels will go when the tires wear out.

and the interior glows in a nice red at night...perfect

the gear changes are instant...and they will change to whatever I want, I pulled a 2nd gear at 50mph...it did it. This car could really use 5 gears tho instead of 4

btw boost is isn't...when I want it, its rears and snorts and this car will go from 50 to 80 in less then 4 seconds, it moves...and its gonna move a bit more once I do the small mods.

I should have 310whp when I'm done from the reading I have done

Those GTP's are fun to work on. Congrats on the purchase. And good luck with the mods. I'm assuming a smaller pulley will be one of the first mods?

General Motors need 3.8 Liters and a Supercharger to make a V6 put out 260HP?

Heh .. engine bay looks like an afterthought.

Yes they do...you didnt know that

this is an embarrassing power out but I can only assume (and hope) that the car will respond very well to mods....if not they should be ashamed of themselves..

My boy has an older model 99 GTP iirc. It "feels" faster than my 5.5gen but its not... no topend tq monsters for sure. Anywho it does ride WORLDS better even after he through some D's on that *****. Horrid pedal feel and interior but it is a 99' soo...The engines take mods well as expected. Getting a 3" down pipe and z bend delete in the exhaust make a would of difference on those car. They are super easy to work on, but once that car starts having engine problems sell it because it'll be one thing after another trust me...MAF IAC TPS O2s 4 gear goings out...

Oddly shaped engine cover, but the bracing from the radiator support to the fenders is nice, and the motor mounts seem pretty accessible (if small). Odd spark plug setup - it's not the right shape to be a distributor, but it's not coil-on-plug. Some kind of odd thing where all 6 coils are in a box together?
