Check it out!
Only a REAL musician! I've never heard "dork" and "drumkey" in the same sentence in my life. Maybe you have me confused with a marching band drummer? Not me.. I'm a rock drummer.
You can always find your keys in your pocket and grab the drum key when you need it instead of rummaging around the gig bag.I keep a couple picks in my wallet
Exactly.. and when im teaching someone lessons at their house or studio, I don't have to worry about whether or not THEY have one. Or if I'm recording in the studio.. I never have to ask "do you have a drum-key?" I'm always set.
I could see a drum key on the key chain of a marching band drummer, since I was one of those too. It was "cool", and necessary since you're constantly trying to keep a snare line all at the same pitch, and tight as glass.
Rock on Jimmy leg!
I have DW bass drum pedals that have the little clip that holds an extra key on each pedal, then I have a nicer key hooked through a key chain ring hanging on my HH stand, plus extra in the gig bag. WTF would I want to walk around with that crooked jimmy sticking me in the leg every time I sit down? Especially when I'm not sitting behind a different drumset every single day, which might justify having a tool with me everywhere I go...

Everyone has their ways of doing things.. but you'll never see me dissing another persons ways of doing something.

Anyway, just some competitive drummer flack, had to give you some grief just cause that's what drummers do. We always size up the other guy...
you got any recordings madmax? or are you in a band?
No recordings, no band. Just a hobiest and a music lover. I play about 8 months out of the year. I put them away around May to the end of Sept so I can keep the car in the garage away from the heat, also leaves room in case a hurracane comes along I can hide the car and garbage cans and such, since sometimes there's only a 2 day warning if they get the predictions wrong early on.
I'm really getting the itch since I'm only weeks away from getting them back out. I was half thinking I'd get them out this weekend and take my chances!!!

It's a really old Pearl Export series 7 piece, double bass. Got it back around 94-95 (when two bass drums was still cool) when I was stationed in CA. Some kid on a hill in his dad's nice house wanted to sell it, and my boss at the time wanted me to get one so we could jam, he played guitar. So I got it. It made the trip back to FL with me when I got out of the Marines, and I've been playing it on and off for a bit. Been on a lot in the last 2 years, and progress has been great. Put a new ride and splash on, and all new heads top and bottom just last year.
This year I'm hoping to reign in my spirit and get to a place under the envelope so that everything is tight musically. I can do some pretty nice groves, I have some great influences and some good tricks, (Carter Beauford's da bomb) but I'm always pushing just a bit harder then my current capabilities. You know what I'm talking about, it's every drummer's nemesis. You have to know how good you are, and play under that umbrella. You push too hard, and it sounds like trash, even if the skill level is up there. You know, like a triple spinning summersault off a high dive that ends up with you flat on your back when you make contact with the water. No one hears the spinning, they just hear the splat on your back...
Anyway, I want to get to a point where it's very clean and tight...much more methodical and musical.

It's great to know there's some drummers on the forums!
Here's a pic of my set, its a 1977 Ludwig 7-piece, with a 26" bass drum.

Here's a link to some of my recordings: http://drop.io/mike_monroe
Nothing too special.. I post new recordings as I finish them. I'm currently recording drums to 15-20 tracks on a rap album for this guy in Berkeley. There's only one track posted on the link for the rap album, and its called
"Final OFFICIAL HARRASSMENT - APril 26.mp3" however its not a true final version because it still needs to be mastered.

Great recordings, of the one's I got through. I only got the first three listened to, and then the site started flaking out on me, now I can't get to it. I was really looking forward to hearing more. I'll try again tomorrow.
I'm definitely a few years behind you right now, I can appreciate the patience and control you've got to put down clean tracks! Man, 1977...that's old, but quite classic for a Ludwing! I have no idea what year my pearls are. I'd guess late 80's, but have no idea without doing some research.

Lemme know if you ever get any recordings.. i look forward to hearin' something from you. Oh and I guess my ludwig is a 79', my bad. Still f'n amazing though. Pearls have always been pretty great, too.
So what'd you do in the Marines?
And I got it on ebay but I don't see any on there right now. Its a dubcity brand or something like that. I'll let you know if I find another one.
I setup the drums this weekend...man, what a high. I played about 2 hours on Sat, and about 1.5 on Sunday. Man I missed playing!
One good thing, I didn't feel any regression from the last 4 months without playing. In fact it feels like I was right where I left off. Sure, some muscle toning and endurance training is required, but the overall energy and technique is still there. Maybe by the end of the season I'll be ready to record a bit once I get my focus on style under control...

Hell yeah man!!! Glad to hear it!!!!
Thats f-in awesome.. Did you have to take them back down when you were done?
It used to take me a couple of hours to set them up; because I'd clean them, or recently replaced all the heads top and bottom, that took a good long time. But now, I can have them up in 40, down in 20...who cares about dust.

NO! They're setup for the season...unless something comes up and I need to get my car back into the garage. It's usually around late May, early June when they get put away...This year was unseasonably early, since I got the Maxima in Feb. I think by March they were put away so I could shelter the Max, but came back out for a couple of weeks in May, but gone again for the summer. It's been a LONG summer! I gotta say I'm getting quicker with the setup and take down.

Nice man!! I wish I could have at least one of my drum-sets set up at my place, unfortunately I have to rent a studio for them until I can find a good enough house with enough space to build my own studio in.
Are you able to jam with anyone in your area?
Where do you live at?
There's a guy at work that's into some great guitar players, he asked about it eariler this year, he was working on a few Eric Johnson songs at the time. I need to get him over and see what we can accomplish. That's about it for opertunity right now.
I'm in Central FL...
