bad news....

i hit a chunk of cement on I20 the other night at about 11:30, had to have the car towed home almost 90 miles. its now sitting in my buddies bay at nissan waiting for an insurance adjuster to come out and look it over. tranny case has a hole in it, tranny pan was destroyed and theres a 7" gash underneath the passenger rear floorboard. estimate came close to $3500....

insurance is covering the $330 tow, rental car, deductible and all damages...

wheels and body were untouched.....

will keep this thread updated as to what happens from here....

Mroth....sorry to hear that man..that totally sucks...BUT...I could completely relate...my first car...(do I dare say it....)a Honda accord had the same fate...I was driving about 45 and I see something ricocheting off of the bottom of the car in front of me that then came flying out from under that car and as i realized it was a freakin bolder....I couldn't do anything about it.....all i heard was clunk clunk clunk..fawkin clunk clunk...

So I drive about a couple of blocks and stop at the first gas station I saw....look under the car and pink transmission fluid is flowing out like an open faucet ....car gets towed and the ordeal ended up costing almost 4000 of which I paid 800 after insurance.....the fawkin transmission case was cracked and they basically had to put another transmission in it....I was so pissed...so I know how you feel..

I can feel for you, I've just been lucky that I've never trashed my transmission like that, I have tore up several tires, a rim, and the whole drivers front fender from crap on interstate highways.

Sorry to hear about that, dude. Can't you go after the state for this, though?

I thought the highway was their responsibility to keep clear of dangerous debris like that...

thats what i was thinking. the state should take care of it and your insurance shouldnt have to touch it and you shouldnt have to worry about it getting totaled out

NOooooooooooooooooo!!!!

damnit!!! I-20 is always a problem!!!

if I'm not mistaken just looks like you need a new auto tranny $~300 install yourself + new trans fluid, clean clutch packs+ filters and you're back on the road. Or have a shop do it and bill the insurance. what is $3500 for if there was no body damage aside from a gash and a broken tranny?
