SwitchBack LED Mirror Turn Signals

Put together a video of my most recent mod. Took the Maxi-LED mirror covers and added a custom touch to them. Started with taking them apart and throwing the LED's and reflector away that were inside. Messed one of the lense's up by using Oops cleaner on it. Resulted in major frosting of the lense with stress cracks. Looks like it started to melt the plastic. Took the undamaged lense and used Oops on it to make it match the other as far as the frosting. Did it in a more controlled manner with a towel instead of spraying it directly on the lense. Then i tinted the lense's and swapped out the LED's inside them with a strip of white and amber LED's configured with relays to give a switchback effect to match the switchbacks in the headlight housing. The paint match is not perfect but what do you expect out of a rattle can. Its close enough for me. I may wrap them with a carbon fiber vinyl or get them painted professionally later on.

Damn man! Nice job on turning those to switchbacks man. Looks a hell of a lot better than the original cheap looking reflectors and LED's that it came with. But yeah, since you tinted the lens than nobody is going to be able to tell that it's frosted inside.

Anyways, don't know how you got the switchbacks done on those but nice job man. Seen that you switched up the LED tails to the black ones too. All in all, your ride is clean as a whistle.

Thanks. The relay's used were designed to be soldered to a printed circuit board. Had to solder wire onto tiny pins. Could not find a bosch style 5 pin relay anywhere in town. Should have thought ahead and ordered it online. Once my arthritis let me get the wires soldered on they were not so hard to work with. Just hope my solder joints hold up. I shrink wrapped them so it they should fare a little better.

I think they will hold up for a while. That must've been a PITA to set up. Even though you already broke everything down. Still puzzles me where you mounted the relay, which wires to solder, etc. All in all, you got skills man.

I hope they do. I'm going to order some bosch style automotive relays in the future as i do not trust these things in an environment where they are subjected to constant vibration. I will likely add a dimmer circuit to the white lights when i replace the relays. May be able to use the photo sensor in the dash for the auto-headlights or just add another one. Ill take some pictures of the wiring part when i have it all taken apart again. Currently the relays are just tucked inside the kick panel.

Damn, that's definitely a good place for them man. Also can see how that is gonna be a problem in the future too. Personally, I light how bright the white LED's are now. But, can't wait to see what you decide to do to these switchbacks man.

The air conditioner in my garage went out yesterday. Definitely wont be fooling with them until i either get the air conditioner fixed or it cools down some. It's too hot to want to mess with them even in the shade.

Yeah, I heard of the heatwave people been having around the country. Wish we can switch weather conditions because it's still raining and averaging 65 degrees where I am.

Ill take some of that 65 degree weather. I'm on-call for the next few nights. I got called out in a nasty lightning storm. Not much rain but i could have drove home in the dark without my head lights. There was that much lighting.

Damn, that must've been something else man. Never seen a lightning storm like that over here. We get them sometimes but it's more sporadic. Definitely never saw the night light up because of one of those.

Im usually not a fan of any extra/blue lights, but that is very tastefully done IMO. I like it! I love how you separated them as well, great job!

Thanks. The camera makes them look more blue than they are in person. They show more white than blue.
