My New Project - Work in Progress

Many of you have been asking me why I ditched my Maxima turbo project and why I'm returning it to stock. Well the reason is that I ended up picking up a new project that I had wanted for some years now, a 1990 300ZX Twin Turbo and yes its an original twin turbo

It was tapped from the rear left wheel, some lady turned left into it so I got it for the low. The title was listed as salvage, I went to check it out and the title was clear. The insurance who totaled it out are morons. I checked the VIN# with carfax, the accident was reported but the car was never officially reported as a total loss. The damage is so minor its ridiculous. Pic of the damage:

This is how car looked before it got hit.

DETAILS
Body has 150k miles on it
Engine about 30k
New God Speed Side Mount Intercoolers
HKS Hi Power Exhaust
Megan Racing Down and Test Pipes
Short Shifter (Not Installed)
Blitz Turbo Timer (Not Installed)
JVC Audio Stereo with AUX input
New Rotors and Brake Pads
HICAS Eliminated W/ Eliminator Bar Installed
New Brake Lines
350z Rims
New Tires Front 225/45/18 Yokohama S Drive
New Tires Rear 245/45/18 General Exclaim
ECU was Upgraded by Ashley Powers

ADDED THE WINTER OF 2011
NEW STAGE 1 CLUTCH
NEW SPARK PLUGS
NEW JWT FLYWHEEL
NEW WHEEL STUDS
HKS EXHAUST NOW LOOKS NEW
8K HIDS
NEW REAR MAIN SEAL

Car needs injectors, the old style ones on these cars always take a dump so I'll be upgrading all 6 anyway. PO put 30k on the engine and it had about 30k when he bought it so it really has about 60k. Car has had 3 owners and the mileage checked out on carfax also checked out as an original TT. Last owner bought it with no engine since the owner before him decided he liked the motor and threw it into another NA Z32. Not bad for a 1990.

I found a local with a left rear knuckle assembly for $40. I replaced the bent control arms last night so the car is now able to be driven. I still need to replace the bent tie rod and the suspension will be back in working order.

I'll update this thread as I go along and post pics and vids of the upgrades and progress. Car does need work to get it up to par and after that I'll begin the quest for more powAh!

Thanks for looking!

Previous owner had gave it a fresh paint job, I was surprised how it came out after the wash, better then I thought. Its sitting on some type of coilovers, I'm not sure what brand though.

I'd get rid of my infiniti for a clean z32 also. There's something about these cars that I love.

350z wheels right? At least it's keeping in the family. Any idea what you're gonna replace em with? Can't go wrong with some BBS or CSL type wheels.

Going to throw the wheels off the max on it for now until I get it up and running correctly, first mod is 550cc "new style" injectors with the adapter kit to adapt them to my "old style" fuel rail or an upgraded aftermarket fuel rail and then a re-tune on my current ash spec ecu.

Going to install my wideband and boost gauge, fix some exhaust leaks and maybe upgrade to a dual intake then see what I can put down.

Not into the whole BBS frenzy or stance frenzy, I'm going straight for power.

I'm in the process of fixing the suspension, just need to finish up the tie rods when they come in and see about anything else that needs to be refreshed.

Cleaned it up, performed the tb coolant bypass and ran new coolant hoses to the turbos, replaced the pcv hoses, replaced the injectors and wired in their new clips.

Finished up the install and got it fired up. Sounds and runs good, just seems like there's still some slight kinks I need to re-look at, at a later time since its too late today.

Btw this came in today, need I say more...

I put them in at the height they were out the box, its a good height but the rear that has the damage is rubbing against the bumper so I'll have to lift the rear slightly.

Depends on what kind of injectors you have? If you are going to run 300zx injectors, the plugs can be found at z1motorsports.com.

I love z1 but so much of it is overpriced. Their tuning is amazing though. and John is pretty cool to deal with.

I've found z1 to be the cheapest priced compared to the other vendors, and I like the fact that they sell OEM as well.

Go to the junkyard and cut them off of one. I couldn't find any either when I had to swap back my stockers on the 5thgen since I cut my original ones too short when I installed the 440cc injectors. I got some from a local that parted out his car then ended up going to the junkyard and cutting some off at a good length, give yourself as much length as you can get. I'll look in my garage I may have a few left (may be short though), if I have at least 3 then you can just cut off the front 3 from one at the jy since I don't think you want to pull the plenum just to get the back 3

How has it been to work on this car? Everytime I see the engine bay, it looks near impossible to do anything

So far I haven't had any trouble working on it, the injector replacement wasn't bad at all just took a lot of time but that's because I did a number of things when I pulled the plenum. Stuff like egr and carbon canister are deleted already which makes it easier and makes the engine bay simpler. I deleted the tb coolant lines and plan on deleting a few more emissions related things to simplify the bay even more. After messing with it and doing lots of reading and investigating, I pretty much know where everything is at and what its for. The PO really did a bad job, he ghetto fabbed everything with zip ties. I've been correcting lots of the previous hackjobs and mistakes and the car runs great now.

Honestly there wasn't anything I couldn't get to without just moving something out of the way thus far, but there are some other maintenance items and things that require the engine to be pulled to do but when I get there I plan on doing one big pull.

I was driving it all weekend, this car is real quick and powerful and when the turbos spool up it just launches away the acceleration is amazing!

Need them bumper lights. Other than that the exterior looks decent, the rims don't go with the car, IMO. Maybe some sportier looking rims...
