Been getting cam sensors codes on the alty motor, tested them out, found out one was bad... got two more forgot to test em on the car, watching the Fringe on netflix got the best of me

Also the TB isn't working, I tested it on my mom's new murano, it works, so me wiring fails me on that one.

Motor cranks like a beast on dat optima tho

Will check out the cam sensors and may do a few more things tonight, but I have another VQ35 swap to attend to also, that motor is starving itself of fuel, otherwise it'd be a done swap.... mmm 6mt vq35 4th gen.

Took it out on the highway today... And I'm quite impressed so far.

The rotors have oxidized over quite a bit in the last few months, so I'm just driving it up and down the highway to clean the rotors off, but overall, so far so good. I have a stalling issue which I'm sure it's due to a few loose ends on the intake setup.

I will update with pics and videos once I get my brand new camera in (I ordered it last week and it still hasn't came in yet!!!)

Anywho, stay close should have more pics and vids soon w/ my new Camera!

^ Yes, I did it w/ the motor swap, all in one swoop.

Has some of the progress, I need to take some more and upload some more photos though.

Cool project and blog...I wonder how much quicker the I35 would've been (vs a 5 spd max) with the 6 speed. Maybe a wash with the extra shifting...?

Have fun!

Night and day, the 5MT gear ratios are almost truck like.

The 6MT gear ratios are more friendly for our motor's powerbands.

After doing two 5mt to 6mt swaps and swapping in both available 6MT final drive (the 3.7 and the 4.1) I've come to the conclusion that the 6MT is completely, totally and utterly superior to the 5MT in every way imaginable.

This just in... 255/40/18's hook in 1st gear now.

And 200 miles in, I still wish I can change gears like a bawss, but till then I'm drivin miss daisy.

Some engine bay lulz.

If you're a pro, you can begin hate on the band-aid fixes.

Oh run the VIN and peep that... a 6MT shifter.... Odd

Till next time... No interior shots, interior is a mess

Minor update:

I hate 3.5's gas drinking abilities.... I always forget that on the throttle you're just essentially tossing money out the window, not like the 4th gen at all, 3.0's don't give a fck, it's all about that MPG

My average will drop from 26 to 20 in a heartbeat.

Ever since my clutch broken in and I don't ms. daisy the car anymore my mpg is leveling out around 20-21

But if I miss daisy it... It's like 25/26 city, and 34-35 highway.

Driving like a jackass it goes to like 20/21 and 27/28 average... The instantaneous mpg is probably half of that because it drops the average mpg so quickly....

And no it's not because I averaged over like 5 mins, I had a amassed a 26 average over about 200 miles and it droped to 20 in about 20 miles

^And that's exactly why I've been hesitant to buy any OEM boosted car....my wife drives like a granny but I like to see redline even for just a brief 1 gear period every time I drive.

I can easily get half the mpg she gets and waste a 1/4 tank of gas in a few outings and then when she fusses about having to fill up again, I just tell her that she needs to 'take it a little easier when accelerating' lol...

Did you daisy chain the VIAS solenoids? I'm only using one solenoid and it's T'd off to each valve. Just curious if you had a reason?

I believe surratt did the same thing I did on his swap. Your blog says only one is opening, maybe that's why?

Good job on the swap though! Glad it's finally running, sorry I wasn't more help when things didn't go smoothly.

Coilovers!!!

I think I only dropped it .5inch front and somehow managed to raise the rear??

This is my first time around with 10k/8k springs so I did not anticipate the sag very well (almost non existant ), so the rear may be a bit higher than stock, I may drop it another 1/4 inch or so, just to maintain a slight rake.

Pshh, off the lot style!!!

I did the lowered thing, it was cool getting attention, but these days I really just care about how the car drives, instead of making it look as well as it drives, knowaimsayin?

Well my XTD flywheel bit the dust, I had to install my Fidanza from the red car, made for a fun off day from work, surprisingly easy to do, I've dropped too many transmissions on these vehicles

Picturesss

I'm back on the road with the Fidanza, which actually netted a performance loss! I could not imagine having a stock flywheel on this car.

Anywho, update later, I'm finally motivated enough to get the OBX headers on the car now.

I wrote a blog post with a better explanation here:

Not. One. Bit.

I'll start a thread in the dyno section, to spitball some ideas.

There is a midrange, but it is PAINFULLY clear that the stock ECU can not even begin to open the potential of an 08 altima motor, for future readers if you want this motor in your max, do not put it in without some way to dial in the cam timing.

Based on logs from an 09 Murano, the cams aren't advancing as far as the 03 ECU seems to advance them.
Now I know the Murano historically has a lame tune vs. our Maximas, but the murano's midrange puts you in your seat while the I35 is just "spooling" up.

Once I get a sheet uploaded you'll see what I"m talking about, the car dynos something like a honda motor atm, with out being able to tune the cam timing expect the only way to go fast is to spin the motor to what I assume about 7500rpm

To give you an idea, the red car put down more tq on the same dyno.

No AFR readings on the dyno day, but I know the car is running rich, just how rich? Eh.

Headers, 2.5" catback and 3.5" intake are going on before August is over, maybe my UTEC might get connected if I can get an AFR sensor and gauge.

I still stand by my claim made years ago, VTC's are useless for making power, whatever ends up in the red car will not be variable cammed, it's a waste of money and effort, I have to spend a lot of money now to get power I should have had in the first place.

How hard would it be to swap an Altima ECU into your setup? Is there a significant roadblock?

Not worth the hassle. If i do swap another ecu in it will be a 350z or 6th gen ecu, that way i have real tuning options.

Tadaahhh!

Quick Review:

W/ the secondary cat back on and the stock catback, this mod is nowhere near as impressive as it was when it was on my vq30s. Part throttle response is rediculous though, also neutral revving is very quick now.

Till next weekend, I'll be cruising around enjoying my awesome power below 2k

After that 2.5" test pipe back on, tied to a 2.5" catback w/ a g35 sedan muffler. Still trying to keep the car as quiet as a mouse....

Man, i came in here to get more insight on what you did about the 4th gen headers with the 4th gen ypipe and i see you changed up motors on me. I know you had talked about some anti foulers a long time ago. I have my 4th gen Warpspeed ypipe in the attic right now collecting dust. What do i need to do to get it to work on my 5.5? Help me please.

You need everything 4th gen, under the hood.

4th gen manifolds w/ the EGR blocked off (somehow, someway, find a way, t3873191p is selling a rear manifold w/ the egr welded shut).
4th gen y-pipe

Then it's a bolt on affair, nothing special really.

To stay code free you will need to add one to two bungs (I only needed to add one because my Stillen was made compatible w/ both Fed and Cali spec maxes), with anti-foulers.

Hrmm... I can do a lil blog post, but I didn't take too many detailed photos, it is a relatively simple mod I got wind of from a Houston local who 3.5 swapped his AE, put in an oem 4th gen Y-pipe and front manifold for quick cheap power.

Any otha questionnsss?

Dynoing on Saturday again.

Same mustang dyno I first dyno'd on in December.

Man these dyno days keep coming and coming

This dyno will be a great comparison to my 4th gen before and after dynos.

This time I will have OBX headers, 2.5" test pipe and 2.5" ebay catback (If you recall, I had the same setup on my first and last red car dyno... Y-pipe vs. Full exhaust).
https://maxima.org/forums/dyno-discu...ml#post7854364

Gained 13whp/20ft/lbs, lets see what the I35 gains!

UNFORTUNATELY!

I will NOT have time to fab the G35 sedan muffler to my car, so I will have a .............. Fart can on.

You know what the most satisfying feeling is? Not that I put a newer STI with some cobb tuning stickers in it's place on the highway, not that I made porsche sammiches on a highway interchange, the fact that my car can do those things and be as unassuming and innocuous (and to most people will always be) as the car in this photo. This is why I own, a boring, hard to mod, luxury family sedan.

To be honest, you have to know what your doing when it comes to the Maxima game, or else you'll spend to much money and lose interest and buy another car.
For 6k (car + parts), I don't think I could do better... And get the chance to use rear heated seats this evening
