I'm New! 6th Gen in the Family
I kind of fell backwards into the Maxima scene. My daughter recently bought an '08 SE model with about 198,000 miles from a friend which had been sitting a couple of years. There were some teething pains: the radiator fan quit and the radiator blew its mind (about a 7" hole in the top), but since I fixed it (I am her personal mechanic) it has proven to be reliable and fun to drive. It has some weird issues I'll bring up in another thread, but she is enjoying it. The car is red with a black hood and bumper, and she has named it Wanda. Those of you who enjoy the Marvel Universe will get the joke.
Meanwhile, one of my nephews has been eyeing an old Mercury wagon I have at the back of the property for a hot rod project. A buddy of his recently gave him an '06 SL (about 176,000 miles). The previous owner messed up a water pump and timing chain replacement (I will throw in details in another thread), and my nephew has decided he does not like working on Nissans. He's a tried and true Toyota man, go figure. ANYWAY...... It looks like I will be coming into possession of a Maxima myself.
I am an inveterate car nut. Our daily workhorse is a 2011 Hyundai Elantra Limited, which replaced a very tired (350,000 miles) '867 BMW 325. My hauling vehicle, which needs an engine overhaul, is a 1954 F-250.
Glad to be here.
