I love my 5th gen to death, but lately I been playing with the idea of trading up to a 6th gen. Earlier today I test drove a 2005 burnt red Max SL, and I loved it!!!! I have the option to trade my 2000 SE in as a downpayment, but I probably don't wanna do that, I really love my Max even though she need some work, any thoughts?

They're junk, especially the autos. Valve body blows up. The number of stupid **** that goes wrong is excessive. If chain guides haven't been replaced, then you're really in the hole.

They should all be driven to the junk yard and crushed. Not to mention they're ugly as sin.

Chain guides? Are they cheap plastic or something? I was reading about that as an issue in the old 22R-E engines from the 85 Toyota Celica GTS, 2.4 L 4 Runner.

I couldn't ever to seem to find a definitive answer. The chains are replaced, too. I think the chains are defective causing excessive wear on the cheap guides. I saw a lot of failures were just on the secondary chain shoes, but some are on the primary, too.

I would have sued my supplier into oblivion. The quality control was nonexistant. Nothing should have changed, since the motors are the same. All of the earlier VQs I've seen have had no wear at all.

I'm with Child on this one. I've worked on a few and haven't been impressed. I've seen one need the chain guides replaced at just over 100,000.

I've driven several including a 6MT. I wasn't overwhelmed compared to my 5.5 6MT. Given the choice I'd take a 5.5 6MT over any 6th gen.

So what's the good vq engine that has zero problems other than the 3.0?

6th gen in stock form is butt ugly. Takes a lot to make it look decent. Personally, I'd keep the 2000 over getting the 2005.

Lol, i loved the navigation screen. But when i pulled up to the 6th gen in mines, i thought i was parked next to boat archer! I pretty much knew i was gonna keep mines, i was just exploring ideas. And plus, even though i loved how quick my 03 gle was, i would rather keep the vq30 as that 03 put a bad taste in my mouth! Main thing with mines is that im fighting rust. I got someone who can get it right for $450! So 5th gen ftw.

Yeah well. I'm a bmw guy.
Nice to know if the time ever comes when maybe the oil filter blows up
or something freakish like that forces me to pull the engine.

I personally think that the 6th gen is one of the worst looking body styles that the maxima has ever had
