2012 Maxima tensioner question

2012 maxima V6. G Son car -Water pump gone bad I have read to remove tensioner assembly and compress piston. I assume it needs to be reinstalled prior to rotating engine to get slack in chain for water pump removal Thx much mike

You can loosen it to bleed off the oil pressure and push It back with a screwdriver then install a clip or thump tack to lock it in place. Please use caution and place a rag below it or you could drop something down inside the timing cover! Remember to back the crankshaft backward (CC) a few degrees to provide sufficient slack to remove the Water pump from the chain. Also be sure to have some jack screws/bolt ready to aid in the removal of the pump!
