Electronics/digital dash nightmares

I am having problems with my 90 gle. It has a digital dash that does not light up until after a few minutes of operation (completely blach dash). Now my speedometer does not register. My dealer has traced the problem to the cluster which they want $2,300 to replace. On the way home from the dealership my a/c quit. It only works for the first few minutes of operation and then it just quits.I am at my wits end and I don't feel like spending that kind of $ to fix it.What should I do ??

you could try removing the dash yourself (easy - instructions on my page under clock repair) and then resolder the circuit board, I know a couple people have said that fixed their dead dash

GXE, they go sooner or later. I like my dash, regular ones go also. Wasn't hard or expensive to correct...

Thank you, Craig. Do you know if these instructions for removing the dash will also work for the digital dash?

yeah, it's all the same until you actually get the gauge cluster out
http://www.prism.gatech.edu/~gte671n/mymax.html in how-to for fixing dead clock

from there, I cant guarantee that resoldering will fix the digital dash, but I've heard some people who have had it work so it's worth a shot

good luck

the problem could be the contol unit on the back of the dash itself, this was the case on my mom's '89, its a very expensive part though, and you should make sure that it is actually the problem before making any purchases, have nissan test it. There is one for sale on ebay right now, look - http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=1854955612
-good luck
