Newsflash: Suspension gurus swap SPRINGS

UPDATE: pictures here or see last post by me.

This just in...Lime and Njmaxseltd had a bit of fun yesterday swapping springs! That's right! No more H&R for me, I now have stock wheels, KYB AGX and B&G springs! I have to say the ride is very nice!!! I like it quite a bit. The car sits a little lower, but not too much so (actually it really only appeared lower after I had 3 other people in it last evening), and the ride really is great. Tom, who stopped by on his way to VT to do the swap, reported the H&R /AGX ride was also excellent on his 17's.

Before doing the swap, we drove about in each other's cars to see how we liked the ride. We were wondering how much of a factor the wheel/tire size was, but apparently it's not too much of one.

So ~3.5 hours, 2 cars, and 1 cool 1-pump-to-chassis jack later (mine muaaaahaha), we have new rides. I'll try to grab some pics today before the rain starts.

Oh yes, and the noises that occurred when turning the wheel (NOT wheel bearings...something to do with the spring and how it was perched) is gone in both cars. I have a theory on the noise; do not put the isolators OVER the end of the spring with AGX. It's definitely an AGX or stiff strut thing.

I'm back from my trip to VT with the pit stop in CT to see Erica! She's such a cutie! Anyhow the swap went great, no problems at all thanks to a big breaker bar and Erica's anti Size. She rocks with that stuff. Every bolt comes off so nice when that stuff is used. Oh and she's memorized every bolts torque value on the Max's suspension.

Both cars came out great, she's got a bit more stability with the B&G springs and I've got a bit more cush back with H&R's. Both of us are very happy. No noises at all on my car. Thats a first time ever with any lowering spring (except OEM) that my car is quiet. I think it was Erica's touch that did it this time around.

The rest of my trip was awsome, the H&R/AGX setup is indeed awsome. Not harsh at all, actually I think the car actually rides better now then it did on SE springs. Very stable & firm, yet smooth ride. I had my AGX's set on 2/3 for the ride from CT up to VT and on the way home I turned them down to 1/2. Very comfy ride!

When I left Erica's house at about 3 I hit I91 north bound. About 30 - 40 minutes into my drive a black 4th gen with tints & Alteeeeeeza's came up behine me. We rode for a few minutes together then he turned off at a rest stop. Wondering if your an orgy member?

Erica, thanks again for the great time spent together on Saturday. That Frankencar intake and Warpspeed SS Y pipe sound amazing! And fast as $hit too. You've got one serious ride gurl, and after hearing that roar....... I'm thinking........ I should stop thinking cause it's gonna cost me $$$$.

:)

Sorry, Calvin...you can help me install the SS lines? LOL.

Tom and I had a lot of fun doing the swap...I'm really glad the sun was behind the clouds for the morning though, otherwise the install would have been much less pleasant. None of my neighbors yelled at us, but we weren't dripping oil or making a lot of noise, so....

KYB rear boots for my shocks are on the way, because Tom gave me ghetto torn rears!

I was surprised at just how BEEFY the B&G's are compared to even the H&R's! But I was scared at the OEM GXE springs!!! Tall and skinny hehe.

Tom and I had much fun; I actually ENJOY working on cars, and we banged out the installations pretty quickly. I am gunna have to have a looksie at JC Whitney now for all the neat toys Tom brought with him.

Yes, it's true, I am a MAXIMA GEEK. I memorized the 4th gen suspension torque values.

Anyway, I detailed the car after Tom left for VT, and I took pictures yesterday. Mmmmm...I chose some neat backdrops in the local area for pictures, so I hope they came out all right. My camera won't rewind, so I bought a disposable camera and re-took the piccies.

Hey Erica,

I'd like to hear your theory. I've used the Radio Shack wire wrap and my passenger side spring still sounds like it's grinding (coil-on-coil) when I turn the wheel. Any insight would be appreciated.

Well, Tom had the exact same noise with the B&G's that I had with the H&R's, and we're both running AGX. I had some vinyl tubing at the very end of the bottom of the springs (where it stops on the perch), and I think Tom's isolator sleeves were over the edge of the end of the spring on the bottom; so when we put them back together, there was nothing at the very end of the spring where it stops in the perch. I think the stuff there unsettled the spring in the perch, so it was moving a little. Just a guess.

good stuff. I'm very curoius what B&G's look like with Stock wheels, please get pics up as soon as you can.

Lately, I've been riding my AGX' with 3/6 settings and I absolutely love it. It's a very stiff ride and it absorbs the bumps pretty well. I'm guessing that with the stiffer, b&G's or even Eibachs the tighters settings on AGX' must feel incredible!! What are you keeping your settings on Lime?

Damn, I wish my g/f would get into Maxima's as much as you Lime. That would make things a bit easier for me....

Good stuff....you two seem to know your suspensions pretty well. Tom's suspension posts in the recent past have made me ponder about trying to do mine myself when the time comes (94k and still on all stock except for OEM rear shocks @ 84k...not to mention the suspension/chassis is squeaking like a fishing boat right now, need to grease that up). I appreciate you guys (and gals! ) sharing your experiences and giving advice. Now if only I had someone to help me out in the garage...

Heh heh...I don't need any cookies...gotta loooooose weight, not gain it. Anyway, if Steve ever gets the camera drivers install CD I can make a thread about suspension. I wish I had a digital camera, because Tom and I would have had fun taking pictures of our install hehe.

Your friends: Torque wrench, breaker bar, anti-sieze
Your enemies: rusty bolts, OEM spacers (top gaskets)

Pictures are coming Thursday, but I will be in South Carolina for work, so I'm hoping to pick them up Friday night and get at least one or two up for viewing then. They are very scenic...I hope anyway...I tried to take artsy ones.

Next step...maybe subframe connectors....

LOL, thanks Calvin. Actually, I really don't drive crazy. When I get mad, I might yell a little, but I am a very safe driver because I got hit once by a stupid woman driver, and I never want to be like that.

Anyone wanna help me change out my suspension? Just waiting for all the rubber seats, isolation sleeves, bushings, spacers, boots to get sent to me from courtesy, pretty much I'm replacing anything that is a wear item. I'm doing the H&R, AGX combo. Anybody??? Oh, i'm located in Queens by the Throgs Neck Bridge. I have a pretty good camera so we can take pictures too! If not I'll just take it to maximus75's shop and just take a couple of pics of the install.

I could have swapped springs with the Pathfinder and it wouldn't have made a difference.

Got my KYB dust boots yesterday. Wow these things look really durable. Once I get the rest of my OEM parts and new Energy suspension bushings, I'll do my B&G/AGX install. And I do have a digital camera to take some pics.

Hopefully I can do the install this weekend.

yes, many video games.

yeah I'm waiting for my KYB rear boots hehehe....

The install isn't so bad, but, for a wuss like me, it's really better to have one other person helping out...especially on an untouched suspension that is hard to get loose.

Deez...hehe...yeah I was amazed at how scary your springs were o_O;
