3 of 4 speeds not working on blower motor
3 of 4 speeds not working on blower motor
I've done a search and didn't find a post very close to mine. I was driving home from work with the AC on and the fan speed on 2 (manual AC; no T-stat). All of a sudden, I lost ALL airflow. The AC was still on so I immediately turned the AC off to prevent damage. I tried all 4 speeds and the only one that works is the highest...4. 1,2, and 3 don't work at all. Any ideas? I've been looking through Haynes manual and am going to check the switch which is my first guess.
Also, the Haynes manual says to disconnect the battery to prevent the airbags from accidentally going off while working on the motor. But then it says to apply voltage and check voltage at the blower itself to see if it is the problem. But the manual said nothing about reconnecting the battery. My question is: What are the chances of the airbags accidentally deploying while I'm checking the motor with power on? Thanks in advance. Sorry for the long post.

I had the exact same problem...It is the resistor that sits inside the blower motor. looks something like a credit card. It's a **tch to get to. I had to remove my whole dash passenger airbag just to get to it. The install is easy, there r like 1 or 2 screws that hold it in, swap it out with a good one and ur good to go! hope i helped
You can push the passenger seat back, and look under. Easy access. No need to remove any trim pieces. Disconnect the connector, 2 screws, replace and reinstall. Less than 5 minutes.

Also, is it safe to drive the car with the glove compartment taken apart and the motor out? The Haynes manual implies that the airbags can go off with all of that taken apart. Do I need to worry about it? Thank you.
I got mine through a local junkyard..i had to take the whole dash out bcause on my car i had to replace the resistor as well as the 2 servos that open and close the vents.
But yeah now that u mentioned it u could probly replace JUST the resistor in a couple of minutes

There is no need to take out your glove4 box or airbag or even your battery terminal.
Just make sure your blower is off, push the seat back and look under the dash on the passenger side. You can see the wiring harness go to this rectangular block screwed in to the bottom of the blower motor with two screws.
You can buy one at a dealer, cost about $25 I think. If you need the part number, go to Nissan parts and either search for resistor or browse ... enjoy
BTW, I've heard dealers will charge over $100 to replace it, go but the part and DIY.

Blower brought back to life!!!!
Hey thanks for your input everyone. It was the blower motor resistor. When I received the new part, I noticed the part number on the actual part is a little different from the original I took out of the car. It looks like Nissan revised the resistor hopefully to prevent this problem in the future. The .org members come through again. Thanks.
