I don't find the humor in this thread. They are illegal. Ask one one of the other Mass owner. He got a ticket too for those pretty nozzle lights.

the law says that you may only have red lights on the rear of your car.

you may not have ANY blue lights on your car. only emergency vehicles are allowed to have blue lights.

saying "i didn't know" will NOT get you out of any ticket. if anything, it will ruin your chances of getting the ticket thrown out.

(newman, thank you voice of reason)

ILoveMyMax... you're gonna pay for having blue lights on your car. Cops think white ones are annoying, if he bothered to pull her over for blue lights it's because cops take a much harder stance against blue lights.

Keep us posted, and buy an english comp book.

Solid red, high intenisity for brake light
Solid white when, and only when when car is in reverse
Flashing red or amber, high intensity on one side for turn signal
Flashing red or amber, high intensity on both sides for unusual hazard
(Turn/brake/tail may be combined into one or more red bulbs)

Any other colour or solid/flashing pattern is illegal.

I was wondering the same thing. There seems to be this attitude that one can break the law, laugh at the summons, and have it dismissed. If the person comes across in court the way he came across in the post, the judge will most certainly require a fine.

Not to flame, but...Attitudes like that made it all worth while to go to court. Show that attitude in court and see what you walk out with. Just a friendly suggestion; don't take that attitude in the courtroom, unless of course you want to entertain the other citizens sitting in court. And you girlfriend is very lucky she only got one ticket if she actually pulled that attitude with the cop. The others are correct in their posts, atleast Louisiana, NC, and OH law agrees with them. State/local laws vary, so check up on them (you'll be surprised at some of the stupid , off the wall laws that can be enforced. And there are so many...) But every state I've been to agrees with atleast one thing. The DRIVER is responsible for just about everything the vehicle does (possible exceptions are criminal charges on passengers and passenger seatbelt violations.). Minor glitches on the ticket won't get it thrown out, either. Those are covered by the "good faith clause", which protects the cop from minor, human errors. But good luck anyways. BTW, english comp would be a good start.

The cop has to ticket the owner while he is in the car. That would be like if you left your light on after going inside and coming outside the next day to see a ticket for your those lights. Did he pull her over for a moving violation? Those small town cops are something else.

Anyways, I'd remove those lights from the car.

George, definitely take those lights off your hood or just disconnect them . Having them on the car is asking for trouble.

300 dollars does sound a little excessive for little blue lights on the hood. A friend of mine had a neon blue light on the front of his car and got stopped, cop just said take it off and let him go. That seems reasonable for just a light, not $300.

With some violations, this isn't true. One obvious one being leaving the scene. Another being red-light cameras assessing 'running red light' violations. In this case I don't think the owner could get ticketed, but I could be wrong. I'd say if anything, she'd get the ticket and some other odd charges having to deal with registration/insurance issues.

Anyways...what are you letting your girl drive your car to work for? Good luck with the ticket, it shouldn't end up at $300. I'd take the led's off to avoid trouble personally at the least (my feelings on external leds/neon inside or outside the car are strongly in opposition though).

there was always these group of guys with mini strobe bulbs on their grill whenever they drove. We all thought it was gay and they were asking to get pulled over. Yes, one of them did on the way to school with a notorious motorcycle cop. Needless to say, more than half of the group took off the lights. The others put the strobes under the car. (which looks pretty cool)

Yeah, really. There are things that are facts of life. It's ok to say @^#$^$#%@#$%!@%$@#&#%^#$^@%$@ I got caught, or I got a fine, or I got a ticket. It's frustrating. But it's not right to play it off and be nonchalant about it and project the blame somewhere else. I was gonna say it's all about maturity but you know what? Me and my buddy got 2 $55 violations in NYC years ago, and the first thing out of my friend's mom's mouth was how we're going to court, we didn't do it, we're not paying. She was no spring chicken, she had to be at least 42 back then, but then again maybe it is about maturity. I was like hold up, we did do it. So WTF lets pay. The funny thing is she probably spent 4 times that a week for their country club membership, yet she wants to make a federal case out of 2 tickets. She wasn't even there! All I can say is MAN UP in the nicest way that I can. We men have to sleep in the beds we make, plain and simple.

Take it for what it's worth, but parents in general have a lot more wisdom than the younger crowd. Might be beneficial to have an open mind and learn from their mistakes. BTW, if someone breaks the law, they need to suffer the consequences and chalk it up to a learning experience. I'm NOT saying I agree with a $300 fine for the lights (a bit steep to me), but if they are illegal in that jurisdiction, then I fully expect the cop to issue the citation. That is what he's paid for. If one doesn't agree with the law, then take it up with the legislature. Judges and cops don't write the laws, they only enforce them. And no, the cop doesn't HAVE to write the ticket, but if the driver exhibits a poor attitude or is a smarta$$, wouldn't you? Just something to think about if you get pulled over. I'd suggest reading the speeding ticket thing on www.EHOWA.com. Very good reading, and so very, very true.

My point is that people here have a nerve to tell anyone what to do and not to do. I don't agree that he has blue lights on his car but some people around here like to type and sound like they know a lot. Everyone should mind there own. Most of the mods that we do to our cars are not legal and we would be ticketed also if a cop knew we had Y-pipes and such.
