Painting Center Caps
Alright... I got run into a concrete divider, and I was fortunate enough to walk away and not have any body damage. Unfortunately, both of my drivers side rims were trashed (tires didn't blow amazingly - and we won't talk about the suspension/steering damage).
Anyway... since it was only the drivers side and I can't replace the rims because they don't make them anymore I decided to stick with OEM 5-Spokes. The wheels I had were ASA 15" 5-Spokes (on the car when I bought it).
The insurance company will pay for the 2 drivers side but not the passenger side... and the body shop said 197 for refurbished and 395 a piece for new. I found some for 100 a piece shipped (used) so I grabbed those.
Well, they cleaned up really nice - but the center caps are faded and a little crappy looking. I figured: "No big deal, I 'll get some from the dealer - probably five bucks a piece." You can imagine my surprise when I found out they were 25 a piece.
I did a search here and someone said that there was a thread that explained how to paint these and that it worked great for them. I have searched for "paint center caps" and a whole bunch of derivatives and I cannot find it... and there was nothing I could find in the FAQ about it either.
Is there a write up somewhere... or can someone just write some quick instructions? I have experience painting by the numbers (I know how to wet sand and I am pretty good with a rattle can) but I don't know what to use for what application. Obviously, polishing them up with a grinding wheel on my dremel isn't the answer...
Thanks for any help or links...
