2k2 Foglights shatter

Oh my fuggin god,

My drivers side foglight is now cracked in half, and i think it was a rock.

Dealer wants $180CDN for this part which is quite expensive.. But here's the thing, how many of you guys have cracked your foglights??

I owned the car for 2 months, and its cracked, yet the other max is a 99 and has 130000kms and no crack?? Did Nissan cheap out on the lense here on the 2k2??

I don't wanna go out and buy another until i know for certain that this situation is not going to repeat!!

Where can i get this lense cheaper??

Hey my passenger side broke. I checked Courtesy nissan and they sell both of them for $175... Are you close to Mass... If so maybe we could split them..

The 95-99 have glass lenses and the '00 and up have plastic lenses. My advice is to buy the X-pel (3M)product for your headlights / foglights. It isn't that expensive and it will definately take a hit without letting the light break. I speak from experience and I'm sure others who have it can tell you how thick that plastic is.

...My passenger side fog cracked as well. What a cheap POS, its only been 5 months since I bought the car... I honestly don't remember any rocks hitting me, I ususally pay attention/hear that kind of stuff...

I think it cracked because it gets really hot when the fog lights are on, and then if it gets cold rainwater or carwash water on it it will crack for the same reason a hot glass from the dishwasher can crack if you pour cold water in it... The particles in the glass contract too rapidly...

2k2 cracked Pass. fog light

I cracked mine on the way to NC this past spring. Dealer wanted $204 for a replacement. I searched the net and found that Tustin Nissan had the best price for one lens around $123 shipped. Still have not installed it though. My gen 3 max I had the same problem. I replaced the whole unit but It had a short in it. Had to replace the bulb constantly. Bought this new 2k2 and love the ride I'm afraid to install the new lens I'll wait till the craked one falls apart.

When I had my 94 Z28, I went through 4 foglights @ $90CDN each and 3 headlights @ $45CDN each. All within 1.5 years and 130,000 kms. I was so surprised since the lights on that car are small targets.

Prices of lights are just way too far out of control nowadays.

I'm pretty sure the foglights on my 02 are glass. They have a nice solid feel to them when I tap them with my knuckle.

I guess an after-market stone guard might help or increasing the following distance...

I had my car only 2 weeks when I cracked the L fog light. $140 CAD is what it cost me to get the new assembly (cannot buy just the lense). The parts guy felt sorry for me so he gave me a break on the price. As you said, $180 is Nissan's list price. I quickly put some Armour Guard film on the fogs after I put the new one in. Before I bought the replacement part, I had the service advisor look at it for warranty replacement. If they can't find an impact mark, it should be covered under warranty.

How much heat can that armor guard film take? I know with my PIAA bulbs the glass lenses get HOT. Will the film melt or peel under prolonged heat? Lemme know how it works for ya...

My Trans Am had basically the same Fog Lights. I cracked 3 in one year. I just stay away from Dump trucks, and any kind of truck spewing Debris. You should see the size of some of the crap that falls off these things. Im surprised my Fogs are fine so far. Knock on wood....

Are you sure about that? I checked on my 02, and it sure seems like glass to me?

Cracked Fog light Ex-Pel guard

I purchased Ex-Pel lens kit which is a thick ply of clear plastic thats glued on to the lens itself. It fits on seamlessly however it is on for good. Its been tested to protect against objects at over 100 mph and above. So far so good. Easy to install.

...You know what Ethan? I am starting to think more and more that these cracks are a design flaw rather than an impact crack. I have the EXACT same crack you do, hairline right through the middle of my passenger side fog, and I SWEAR nothing ever hit it, I would have noticed. I ALWAYS notice stuff like that when driving. There is no impact mark either. I heard someone say that they (NISSAN) would replace under warranty if there was no impact mark, but that may be bogus.

i love my car and all - but why does it seem that Nissan is screwing around with the quality level in the parts?

Thanks, here is the web site (www.xpel.com). I paid $69 for the kit which included both front hid covers plus fog light covers. The hids are a little difficult to put on. I have to tell you that once put on however it doesn't come off. The look though is seamless. You can never tell that it's on your car. Be aware that when you do the install it will leave a film which goes away in a couple of weeks. Other than that it gives you peace of mind knowing that your lights are protected.

And yes mine is a hairline crack with no impact marks what so ever...

Are there some PIAA fogs or something like that that you could get to replace them, instead of just the stock ones? Basically, do any fit right in there?
