weighed in at 2800 lbs today w/ system

I just got back from the scales, and had my car weighed... 2800 lbs w/ my 15 and amps... Thats on my tantrums, and almost no gas - also no one in the car.

That sounds pretty low to me, but it was exact (2805pounds)...
I dont know, are those numbers good? I thought our cars were like 3300 or something. And I havent done any weight reducing things - gas is about 120lbs more if i had a full tank i think... 15gal x 8lbs=120

No, that's not good at all. That's FANTASTIC!! Holy cow is your car light, WITH a beefy system! My 98 SE with just the basic BOSE (no heavy subs OR extra amps) weighs at least 200 lbs more

That's the beauty of a '95. The lightest Max of the last decade, and surely lighter than any to come. My '99 feels more solid than my old '95, but certainly not faster, without mods.

Damn, your car is thin. When I weighed my maxima, it came out to be 3100. However, I had my spare tire and jack and a full tank of gas. However if everything was out of my car, I still would not get 2800. Are u fully loaded with abs and leather and all that other stuff?

Where can you weigh a car? I'm just wondering because I'm interested in doing it in the near future.

BTW, that's very light. The lightest I've heard. I hope mine is that light too.

You weigh it at a truck scale if you're drag strip doesnt have one. usually it is free. My car is a 97 SE and is 3200 pounds. The 97-99's are naturally heavier (I say by around 200 lbs) from more structural reinforcements (check out crash tests... www.iihs.org) and I got my monsterous stereo in the trunk.

3 places I can think of to weigh a car:

Track / Drag strip
Performance Shop
Quary (sp?) truck scales
Interstate truck scale

My guess is that the last two are less accurate, and I know that when I have had my car on them before, that they round to the nearest 20lbs (ours do atleast).. but seem to be right on - also I do not know if interstate truck scales will let a car go, but whats the worst that can happen, they say no ?

and no, I was not in the car - that would be REAL light then

Re: weighed in at 2800 lbs today w/ system

Well, I'm looking at my registration and it says my car weighs 2961 pounds. I have a 98 auto SE with everything(leather, blows, heated seats, sunroof, etc.). So the 97-99 are not much heavier than the 95s. And the autos are NOT much heavier than the manuals!! The 5th gens on the other hand, well...just look at the way they look!

as far as auto being heavier.... i wished i had actually weighed both tranny's... because I know an auto was rather hard for me to lift by myself... whereas 5spd = no prob... so just there is 50-100 lbs ? but still that is not as much as everyone makes it out to be... and it is over your front wheels to give you more traction - better then bein in the trunk or somethin haha (system)

You're forgetting something. He has more stuff and still weighs 150 lbs less. Your BOSE has the standard 6.5 speakers, he has an aftermarket system with beefy amp and two 15" subs. Not 10s, 12s, but 2 freakin 15s . . . .and he still comes out weighing ~150 lbs less than your car and mine.

I see, doesn't abs add like 200 pounds to the car? That is what I have read on the org.

I did not think that it weighed near a fraction of that when i removed the whole abs setup from my donor car... but who knows. I dont like ABS one bit anyways , so if im lighter thats another plus to not-having abs...

I wasn't forgetting anything, I wasn't making a comparison. I was just stating the fact that my car fully loaded still comes in under 3000 pds. Nowhere near the 3100 what most people believe is the weight of an 97-99 auto. Oh I have ABS too.

Oh

You know, there is a flip side to this light wieght though, as there is with everything. Lighter weight is better for performance, but I bet the 97+ Maximas are smoother and quieter, for those times when the 1/4 mile is not your priority.

Dude that sounds a little odd. I have a fully loaded 1995 SE 5-spd bone stock... and that weighed in at 3040 lbs with almost no gas and without me in it. I have the 1995 Maxima sales brochure and it says that the weight is 3030 lbs... so I was right on. Are you sure the scales weren't tipped about 300 lbs?
