How do I change power steering pressure hose?

I have a 89 SE and I found a leak in the power steering pressure hose the one that has the brass fitting on the end. I have a Chiltons manual and it does not mention at all how to change this hose. Same with the search I cant find help on how to change it. Any ideas guys? thanx

Don't go to the dealer because they want about $300 for it (no joke!). Go to pep boys or any other auto parts store and get it from them for about $30. Matt tipped me off to the dealer/aftermarket price difference on this part about a year or so ago. Hard to believe there cold be that much of a price difference, but it's true.

Makes you wonder whether there's a real quality difference between them (that really apply to us), or is it more about the quality of some company executive's country club membership or corporate jet privileges...

They seemed very identicle. Same finish on the metal ends. Same length. Same type and size of heat resistant sleeve to protect from exhaust temps. I have a hard time understanding how anyone could justify a $300 hydraulic hose.

I called my uncle whos got his own auto body shop and he ordered it for me. The hose came to be 42 bucks. After calling Exectuive Nissan and a few other places they wanted 160 to 190 bucks. I called my uncle back and asked him why so high he said thats how the dealers are. So I got the hose ordered threw him for 42.40.

i bought the pressure hose from autozone for $21, kragen has it for $45. i also got the upper and lower radiator hose from autozone, upper was $10 and lower was $9. kragen's price for these were about the same. anyways, i checked the radiator hoses out... the shape wasn't really identical(more bends)even though the inlet/outlets are where their supposed to be. i returned these and got factory looking hoses from my mechanic. for $5 more per hose.
i put my pressure hose on and cleaned everything up, after 30 mintes of driving, i heard my p/s pump whining and rumbling again, checked out the pressure hose and there was a pinhole leak on the thin metal part separating the hose and the bolt that would squirt fluid up to the hood when turning the steering wheel and drip when stationary. i ordered another pressure hose from my mechanic for $55 and compared the two, the cheap autozone hose was really rough and looked well, cheap. my mechanic's pressure hose looked almost like my factory hose, real smooth around the metal joints. my mechanic did the pressure hose for me the second time around.
sorry for being long, just want to say that you get what you pay for... i'm lucky i have a mechanic i trust and would probobly never go to a retail car parts store again for anything more than the basics like fuses, fuses and fuses

A little late maybe....

When I changed my hose (just receantly), I did not use a metric, it would not fit. I used the 15/16 for top and bottom. For the bottom, I had to go to Sears to find one that was about 5" long, very short for such a large size wrench. It was all that would fit in that space. Don't try and remove the pump, it's not necessary. I jacked up the passenger's side in my yard. It would had taken 30 minutes or less if I had not had to drive around town looking for a wrench that would fit: Auto Zone, Home Depot, Lowes, Sears. I believe a crow's foot will work (for a rachett) but I didn't try. How to: The top peice comes right off, watch for metal washers so you don't loose them. Crawel underneath the car from the passenger's side and use the short 15/16 wrench to remove the bottom. Reverse procedure ensuring proper placement of washers, check fluid level in reserviour and add as needed. BTW, my hose is A-Z quality and is fine.

I called Auto Zone and Lowes and they dont have it. I thhink im bout rdy to just saw this huge wrench in half lol j/k. I guess Im gonna call Sears next they might have it.

Dang man, it's just a hose with a bolt on either end. The above info seems to cover it all; bolt sizes, washers, and check fluid. Which part are you stuck on?
