Is the probe turbo? If so, it has tremendous potential. But it is still a ford, hence ford reliablity and build quality. The max has a vg motor..one of the most reliable engines ever. Is it a 5-spd? I'd go for the max, but I'm biased. Fords are generally crap. Some good, but more bad than good.

The probe is not a GT. It's a regular probe with 110 HP.

Because the Probe is not turbo, I would go with the Max

UHH, I'd pass on the probe. Like comparing apples and my butt crack.
Probe will be cheap to own and maintain, but slow like slug, and willl come with ford's "if it's on there it will break" guarantee. Seriously though, just check into the service records and thoroughly inspect both before you buy. Look for oil leaks (a ford 4 cyl. specialty), worn suspension, engine and trans mounts , exhaust maifold studs (nissan specialty), find out when the timing belts were done last, axle boots, tuneup stuff, tires, brakes, underbody rust, FLUID (especially oil) LEVELS and CONDITION (this will tell alot about how well maintained the cars were), belts, hoses. Do not spend until you are sure you're not buyin a bunch of problems. Good luck

Go for the Maxima, the Probes are notorious for breaking down, and not all that comfortable either really, but it's your money you're choice! Good luck with eother one!

Go for the Max. Probe GT's and the turbo do have potential but, Maximas are much more reliable and personally I think they are just better.

My brother owns a mazda mx6 which is the same drivetrain as the probe. The 2.2l mazda engine is a boat anchor compared the my VG powered 91se.If ones a manual go with the stick because the automatic transmissions used in both of the cars are junk for heavy footed driving. If they are both automatics, I say the max will easily smoke the probe.Good luck.
