15K mile SES light
15K mile SES light
Okay, I did a search on this and in only came back with 2 responces. One of the possibilities was a faulty O2 sensor and the other had no cause. However both were on a 2K Max, which is what I have.
Here's my situation...I was driving home the other night and the light came on. I don't know why it came on, but I was at about 15290 miles. The car really hasn't been driven since then and I haven't called the dealer yet, since it was the weekend and the parts/service dept is closed. My dad's 200SX used to do this too as a reminder light so that you would take the car in for service. Nothing was necessarily wrong with the car and the dealership would just cut a wire when the check was over. So over time, a series of wires were cut to turn off the SES light. However, if anyone knows the possible cause of my SES light please do share. I've changed the oil since the light came on cause I needed to and the light is still on. Thanks

The SES light is not a maitainence reminder- Your car has thrown a code & needs to be hooked up to the Consult to figure out what it is. The most common codes on a 2K are the 02 and MAF ones, they usually involve re-programming the ECM.

I was driving my dad's 2002 Max when the SES light came on at about 16k miles. The car seemed to be running as smoothly as it always had, so I just took my time and drove home easy. My dad drove it the next day after adding fuel injector cleaner, and the light went off. My car (a 96 GXE Auto) has had the CEL go on quite a few times (maybe 4 or 5 times over the course of 153k miles) and then go off after adding fuel injector cleaner. I haven't had it happen since I stopped going to a specific gas station, I bet it's dirty gas that's causing the problem.
A friend of mine has a 2000 5sp that had the SES light go on, the dealer said there was nothing wrong, that it was just a reminder and they reset it.

My light went off yesterday as I was driving, so whatever threw the code must have corrected itself. So as a resolution to this, just drive the car for about 50 miles and the light should go off..lol. Not kidding...this is what the local Nissan Guru told me to do too, cause he rented a 2k2 and got an SES. His car even went into limp mode for some reason other than the accelerator pedal recall, but after 50 miles or so, the light went off and everything went back to normal.
