Maxima tied w/Passat for TQI (Total Quality Index) award

I just came across this on Carpoint today: http://carpoint.msn.com/advice/windo...Edit2&src=Home

It's good to see the Maxima win some awards and hopefully regain some respect (seems like the Altima gets so much attention these days).

I don't understand the VW Golf being the small car leader in TQI because the three people I know that have (or had) a Golf, 2000 and later, had nothing but trouble with them. Major stuff too, not little nigglies.

I guess your three friends didn't get the survey.

survey

These inital owner survey's are mostly an indicator of how good your dealership does their job. Let's face a car should not get sold that hasn't been at least checked over by the dealer. I remember buying a Pontiac and the day I went to pick it up, there were several significant but easily fixable things wrong with it. When I bought my Maxima the only thing I found wrong was one of the tire valve caps. Big difference.

Another problem with this particular survey is that it factors in the purchasing process. Granted purchasing is a big annoyance but they also highlight that a lot of manufacturers are offering incentive plans. Which means that the results will have nothing to do with the reliability of a car.

Long term reports like Car & Driver, etc. do are much more meaningful. Just my $.02.
