2k2 Radio on back-order

This one's just FYI.

Three weeks ago my OEM radio stopped playing CD's (In fact i couldn't get the CD in, kept giving out an error). I called in for a replacement.

Thing is, they didn't check to verify the problem. So i'm assuming this is a common one.

At first i was told it would take 7-10 days. Which is better than nothing. Two weeks later no sound came out of the radio anymore. I called in for a follow-up and was told it should have come yesterday.

So i called yesterday and was told that Nissan has a nationwide backorder on these OEM radio's and stock won't be coming in until late August or first week September.

That doesn't give me a warm fuzzy. They have a Bose head unit on order for me to replace mine too. When playing CD's all the sound will go off to the right speakers when I go over a bump. It then will stay that way until it feels like going back to normal. They ordered the new unit over two weeks ago and told me Friday that they expect it early this week. I guess I won't hold my breathe.

Is your head unit the Bose model or the standard one?

It's the standard one, but given it's both made by Clarion they might be suffering the same backorder

With the radio just not working on me, the lights still come up but the sound goes in an out. At first i thought it was a loose connection, but it wasn't.

I may end up just replacing it with an aftermarket and sell the replacement unit when it does come in. Not sure yet, i really like the flush look of the OEM's.

I have also heard

that some top end retail clarions, like the 925 in dash DVD, are on national backorder because of mechanism errors.

It's been two weeks since I ordered my BOSE stock radio as well, and no word from the dealer, the cd changer stopped working, it wouldn't let me take out my cd's or play them, just tape and radio.

A few days ago I parked my car at school and when I come back to the car 3 hours later, the radio had spit out all 6 cd's and now it works fine...so I am not in a hurry, as long as they have it there in a month or so, when my oil change is scheduled.

I am just a lucky one tho, I feel for you guys with the messed up radio because mine didnt work for about a week and it was horrible, specially the morning commute to school, I couldn't even speed to distract myself because of all the traffic.

Mine does that as well. Except it will randomly cut in and out when I either a) go over a bump, or b) hit my brakes hard.

And I'm on my second Bose headunit (had it replaced for this problem) as well...

That cutting out is exactly what i'm experiencing at this point (plus the fact that the cd doesn't work anymore)

I'm starting to consider not having a radio to be a safety hazard these day. For the first time in my life i get sleepy during traffic

Forgot to add. The speakers will NOT cut out on the AM/FM or tape-it's fine then-only the CD player (both units!!).

Wow, that is exactly the same problem my stereo has. I am usually one to listen to CD's most of the time, but find the sound thing so incredibly frustrating that I am on FM most of the time now. Does yours always go over to the right set of speakers? Mine is stuck that way most of the time now. I am beginning to wonder why I paid $900 extra for the Bose unit...

Ditto on all of this.... My BOSE has been on order for about 3 weeks now. Low, low, low, distorted sound coming from the left speakers while playing CDs. The right side is fine. And all speakers work fine on the tape and radio settings. Still no answer from the dealer or Nissan on when a new radio will arrive.

Radio issues

Same thing

Cut out on left plays only out the right. Since I do not use my radio I dont know if that fix's it. But I do know a swft knee or fist on the left side of the console does.

:-D Looks like something that is going to deserve a TSB

Another crapped out HU

I had the exact same thing happen to my Bose HU (left side cutting out). It took 2 months for a replacement to arrive. 3 weeks after I received the new unit IT stopped working too. It will not play any CD's .... just gives me the error message "CD ERR F3". I now have a THIRD head unit on order. Does the lemon law apply??

I've had that error message pop up in my face before too. F2, F3 and F4. Anybody know what the heck these stand for????

Re: Re: Another crapped out HU

What is the build dates for you guys having HU problems? My car was 11/01, and I haven't had problems w/ the HU yet. Just wondering if it was a certain batch of bad units.

The problem seems to be pretty common regardless of build-dates. The radio's aren't made by Nissan.

Anyway, IIRC my build date is June or July 2001.

My CD player has gone on the fritz several times. It gets an error code and beeps at me when I try to switch to another CD or load/eject a CD. I called my service writer and he put one on order with no hassle or even wanting to see it. I guess your right about this being pretty common. For now I ejected all the CD's because I was worried it would jam and require disassembly to get them out.

Yup, it only goes over to the right side. It's really weird, though. I hit a pretty good bump Sunday (didn't see it...) and it jarred the left channels back-and they haven't gone bad since. Jeez, you'd think these head units were made by Radio Shack.

Phillyguy, my build date was 11/12-who knows if it has any bearing, but...

F8Lmax-I think this is just a problem with the in-dash changers.

I am having the same problem! All the sound is going to the right speakers. It comes and goes with bumps. Only effects the CD player though. AM/FM and tape is fine. Did Nissan say what the problem is? Could it be due to CDR'S?
