Do I need an Optima?...

Here's the deal...

I don't have a huge audio system, just a reciever and speakers. I have 2 sets of stobes and a few neons. I like to run them as well as my headlights while the car is off. I also leave my doors open for extended periods of time sometimes. This will be a replacement for my facotry battery.

So do you think I need the Optima ($129.99 + tax) or will the Sears Die Hard Gold ($79.99 + tax) do for me?

Sprintmax I'd love to buy the yellow but I don't have the stereo to justify the jump in price.

Redmaxpawhydoyouhavetomakeyourstinkinnamesolong I would love to buy it online for cheaper but my battery is dead right now and I need it for Sunday so I'm buying it locally. I also thought about the painting but it's too messy for me.

hmmm....I have a tv, DVD, dreamcast, 2 amps(60w and 120w), had some strobes till they blew last week and all I have is a battery I got form Merchants auto...it was $75 and no probs yet!! I'd compare it to the Sears Die Hard or high end Interstate batteries, etc. so I'd go with that, no need for an Optima yet!

I have had a die hard gold battery for a year and a half and it meets my needs. I have 3 amps 1x400, 2x60, and 2x15. I have had my stereo on for 2-3 hours without the motor running while cleaning/working on my max and it starts up fine afterwards. I keep the volume a little bit above half when listening to music with the motor off.

take a trip down to your interstate battery dealer. look at the x27 i believe. it says workaholic on the battery. i had one of those in my 83 and i believe it put out equal or more amps than a yellow top. 650 or 675. you could have that for less than 100. good luck.

get the yellow.. if not the blue.. i have the blue in my trunk.. but then it's not at all visible.. or better yet get two and get a heavy duty relay that switches that will change your power source when u're just in the parking lot chillin' and listening to the tunes. that way the power source for your system is independent from the power you'll need to crank your engine. i'm not sure if u can understand what is comin' outa me.. i haven't slept for a long while.

But mine is going to be in my red engine bay and plus I don't have a big stereo and need the yellow top.

Optimas are good batteries, but way expensive. I think they are overkill. The main advantage they have is that they are gel-cells and won't spill out their fluid. So they are great in things like airplanes and 4x4's. Exide has a battery just like the optima, called the "orbital" or something like that, as does napa, they are all probably made by the same company, but the exide and napa ones just look black and not as cool. Bottom line is that your bat doesn't make too much difference, just as long as you have one that is big enough for your setup.

The yellow top is the one to get if you can aford it and find a good deal...Why get a crappy 70 buck battery that woun't make you happy and will die in a little bit and need replaced anyway...It's just better to spend more now.

Well I don't want the yellow top because like I said I won't make use of it's extra features and my engine bay is all red (as you can see). The reason I want an Optima is because I've heard you can run them longer before they die, and I have an aftermarket pager that constantly sends out a signal, neons and strobes I like to run sometimes, and I like to play my stero for hours while cleaning the car. On the other hand, believe it or not the SEARS has the better warranty! The Sears has a 3-year free replacement and 2-year pro rated vs. the Optima's 2-year free replacement and 3-year pro-rated. That's why I'm leaning towards the Sears, and it's $50 cheaper. On the other hard I would definitely dish out if the battery is significantly better and plus it matches my color scheme.

I din't read the whole thing thats why...But, if you want a good battery theres nothing wrong with the red top...The yellow is better becuz it is ment to last longer with the engine off, but the red is solid and far more worth it than the sears crap...Trust me sometimes it's worth it to pay more...And a warrenty is only good if you need to use it, and if you have to use it, than what good is the battery? If the optima would some how manage to be fully drainded and not start your car, just jump and once and it should be good, there truley worth the little extra money.

i still recomend it because no matter whether or not you have an aftermarket system in your car that battery will help.. it just means u get more music time with your engine off, altho you shouldn't be using that much electricity when your engine is off because it shortens the life of any battery, including deep cycled batteries.

Dude you've got a dreamcast in your max!
So what do you sit around all day and play Tokyo Extreme Racer 1/2?
Test drive La Mans? Oh I wish my dream cast was in my Maxima!

When I first saw this thread I thought you were asking if you should buy a Kia Optima! lol
