All AUTO Tranny drivers when you shift from gear to gear do you shift a dead stop or do you just shift while you are rolling..

I shift from a dead stop most of the time. Only takes slightly longer and anything that might help prolong the life of my tranny is good.

i try to do all shifting from stops but going from P R or N into drive it takes so long for the gear to engange i sometimes hit the gas too soon so the car jerks abruptly...very annoying Meanwhile when i shift into R 2 or 1 it engages right away

uhm, I don't normally manually shift except from R-D or what-not. And that is ALWAYS at a complete stop. Major rule in my family with auto cars lol.
