I just read a review that put the 96 Maxima SE (stock) at 6.7 sec from 0 to 60. I have a 96 GXE and was wondering if it is safe to assume that time would apply to my GXE, in view of the fact that (I think) the only performance related option added to the SE would be a different set of tires (wider track?). If we are talking straight-line acceleration, then this would seem to me to be the case. I do have 96,500 miles on my car, but it's got a new set of NGK's and a K&N filtercharger and is in very good condition. (It was just in bad accident where it tried to sneak under a c/2500 pickup and crumpled the hood and fenders and lights and grill - $5,530.00 worth of damage but the engine was unharmed - so they say. It's in the shop. I hope it still drives the same.)

Also, does anyone know of a website that lists performance data for various makes and models of vehicles like the Car and Driver magazine's "Road Test Review" page? I believe that is the page that had a list of 50 or so selected models and 4 or 5 specific performance related data values including 0 - 60 acceleration times and top speed.

well

that 6.7 number for a 96 SE is for a 5spd ..
if your's is 5spd then yes you will run that number ..
however with 96,000 miles you may see some loss in accleration or maybe not.. it all depends on how the car was driven ..

I'd say there would only be a slight diff in accel form a stop only b/c the SE has the wider/stickier tires and the stiffer suspension to keep the weight from transferring to the rear. Engine and tranny are identical. To counter that the GXE doesn't have the spoiler (and maybe no sunroof) so it saves some weight.

Actually, I forgot to mention, I have an automatic transmission. What are we talking about shaving off, maybe as much as 1 - 2 seconds to make the 0 - 60 time closer to 8 seconds?

That time is posted by a professional doing really sick launches. If you got a 5spd with excellent engine, expect low 7's.

Oops, I meant to ask "Do we need to ADD 1-2 seconds for an 8 second 0-60 time?"

I'd guess about 1 second...from my experience racing my buddies 97 SE auto in my 95 GXE 5 speed. I beat him by a few cars lengths form a rolling start to about 90.
