Where does the pilot bushing go, I tried to insert it, but their looks like their is some sort of spacer in their. Please help quickly, the store closes in 15 minutes if I need any special tools!!!!!!!!

Yea the pilot bushing goes on the motor side in the very center. Its about 3/4" and it looks like just a metal pipe thats cut down.

To get it out, you must get a pilot bushing puller tool (looks like a slide hammer), preferably one that has the screw expanding inside, not the 2 jaw one. I may have a piture of it, but I cant find it at the moment.

Do I need to remove the flywheel to pull it out? I tried for about 1/2 an hour, and I couldn't get it to budge with the flywheel installed...

 

You need to change the auto bushing to the manual bushing (I'm not sure what the outcome would be if you didn't). I just confirmed with DAVEB that they are different.

 

Hmm... Thanks Kev... I don't recall ever reading anything about this before when I was getting all the parts I needed and researching to make sure I had all the tools... Is their another bushing that needs to go in, or is it the pilot bushing you are talking about?

 

You need to take out the auto bushing and put in the manual bushing (we are referring to the pilot bushing).

Yikes Well no vibration yet, but I think I'll go ahead and pull it to change it(Maybe stick in a lighter flywheel).

 

Good idea. Make the tranny drop well worth it.

 

No luck for me yet. I went to every auto parts store in town looking for a better tool and nothing....

Thanks for the pic Eric. No one has one of those around here. The tool I was using screwed in and had two fingers to pull it out. All they did was gouge the metal a little bit. The tool itself bent in the center, and gouged the hell out of itself where it screwed in. The support arms also look a bit bent now. Oh well, Im gonna go with it and hope for the best.

 

Size dif is not enough to matter...
Don't worry about it.. if you wanted to get it out I would suggest using a dremal and grinding it out.

 

A dremel would take FOREVER, and it's not soft steel either... I think the best way to get it out would be to use a butane torch and heat up the outside, and use nitrogen to freeze the bushing, then it would probably just slide out. That's what we used to remove tough seals on helicopters in the USMC...

 

The 2 toothed one is no good. I woulda told you that from the get go. Anyway, usually pilot bearings are brass or copper if I'm not mistaken. It shouldnt be too hard, but I still wouldnt recommend cutting through it. Find that tool!

 

Eric, I know the 2 toothed one sucks, but that's all I could find. I'm not trying to remove the pilot bearing, I'm trying to remove the spacer that comes in the auto crankshaft. It's about a 1/2 thick all around. I don't want to cut it for fear of damaging my crankshaft. I'm just gonna go with it for now...
