I caught some kid spit on my Maxima today

I was at work on break eating lunch outside and see two kids looking at my car, I thought nothing of it and continued to eat my lunch. A couple seconds later I see one of the kids spit on the hood of my car, and they both started to laugh and walk away. I stood up and started walking towards them, the kid who spit on my car sees me and started to run. I ran after him and caught him rather easily. Here's how our conversation went:

Me: How old are you?
Him: 15.
Me: Why did you spit on my car?
Him: I didn't know it was your car.
Me: Why does it matter who's car it is?
Him: .....I'm sorry.
Me: Yeah, come here and prove it. (we walk back to my car)
Me: Take your shirt off and wipe the spit off my hood.
Him: Why should I?
Me: Because it's the right thing to do, and because I said so.
Him: OK (and he starts to clean my hood with his shirt)
Me: Oh, and when you're done that, wipe down my exhaust tip.
Him: What?
Me: Would you rather I follow you home and tell your parents what you did?
Him: No.
Me: Well then get busy.
Him: Fine.

After he finished I said, "Instead of spitting on cars you should get a part-time job polishing them, you're not bad at it." He just walked away with his shirt over his shoulder and said nothing. Maybe now he will have some respect for other people's possessions.

You are def. a better man then me.

Last time a kid spit at my car while I was driving (he was right next to me), I threw my Snapple bottle at his windshield. Needless to say, I sunk below his level.

so is your car in the same place every day, or was this the only time you'll park there? I'd watch out for the kid coming back with eggs, brake fluid, or worse. If it's the only time you'll park there and he won't know where your car is, well... as other have said, your restraint is admirable.

I dunno, how old are you? What that dude did was all wrong, but it didn't harm your glass or paint. Seems like you got off humiliating a kid. What usually happens is one day you run into someone who doesn't fancy much to bullies and you get real trouble in return. Wassup with this exhaust tip BS? Did you just watch Marathon Man or something?

Like I said, that kid did something really wrong. But I take it you're an adult.

Turned 20 in July. You could also check my profile.

The fact that there was no physical harm done to my car isn't the point. Do you also think that if the kid had tried to steal my car he should not face the consequences? After all, no harm no foul, according to you.

Works both ways. The kid is lucky he didn't do this to someone who solves their problems with violence. Instead of having a dirty shirt he could have wound up with a bruised face or worse.

I have no idea what Marathon Man is, and I think it's pretty clear why I made him clean my exhaust tip.

What are you implying by this statement?
