What type of gas do you put in your max?

 

guys check it out. This idiot gained only 1/5 cars on 97 Accord LX auto and is complaining his car is slow. He's been putting 89 grade gas in it. Dumb ***.

 

Actually it was 1 1/2 cars!! But I thought that medium would be good enough??? Well lets just see what others have to say.

 

premium and super grade??? most gas stations in the southeast only have premium usually 93 octane.

 

Hey Igor...how bout them reverse indiglo gauges for the 2k Max. How is that group deal coming along?

 

Here in Cali, premium is only 91 octane. It was 92 up a few months ago.... but with all the restrictions, smog, and Sierra club lawyers.... I'm surprised we aren't running on THC fumes. (Pot for those that didn't go to college.)

"I" use the cheapest **** avaliable(87), really I use premium(93) but the other people who use "my" car don't seem to think it's worth the extra few bucks....now I'm not pointing any fingers.
And I don't notice any difference in performance; I mean I guess it could be better But I guess it's not worth it.

Well i have about another 50 mi. or so till i need to fill up. Im gonna try the 93 stuff and see the difference. I will post what I think is better, 89 or 93

 

I use premium 92 gas in the tank, but the car gets 100% natural gas. Dang beans really give me a hard time.

 

I will admit that on a regular basis, I will top off a half full tank (of 93 octane premium) with a half tank of mid grade (89 octane). I never let the "average" get below 91 octane

 

91 is the only thing available here. Thats what I use. I used to always use Sunoco 94 in NY. I know im getting screwed by using premium, but I do it just in case it makes a difference.

 

It may be in my mind but Sunoco 94 octane seems to have a dramatic improvement in engine response on my 2K2 Max. The car revs better and the acceleration is much better over any other gas I used.

 

Would it be worth to dyno a Max using different types of octanes?

 

hmmm, I would use 87/9 in a pinch. 'cause ya can... but I dont think I'd dyno with it. I wouldnt go anywhere near redline with low grade.

otherwise its whatever is 92 or higher.

TOTALLY! DAMN!! I just got back from a trip to N. Cali and I was so DAMN ****ED that I payed $1.95/gal for 91 octane! UGH! In OR, I pay $1.55/gal for 92 octane and someone pumps it for me! (a law like jersey!)

I haven't seen anything higher than 92 since I lived in NY..they have 94 there, which is all my stangs (which really didn't need it) got.

 

Yeah, I here that. I'm originally from MN, and I know that when I was stationed at Fort Knox, KY in '94 that's about when the 93 octance came out. It's been at least 8 years, and Duluth, Minnesota STILL does not have anything higher than 92 (which they consider Ultra).... and you're lucky to find it THAT high! How pathetic!

 

Anything less than 92 octane and the computer/knock sensors may start retarding the timing. Is there an Auto Tap available for our Maxima's to check for timing retard?

Most of you probably won't notice any difference in performance. But you can notice the extra mileage you get out of each tank. I would get another 30 miles or so out of 93 vs 87 when I ahd the '98 Max. My 2002 doesn't even know what 87 tastes like. It only gets 93. And on rare occasions 100.

Citgo, Sunoco (GT100) and 76 all make 100 octane unleaded gas.


Sunoco even makes GT104 which is 104 octane gas that isn't street legal. Only 20% of it is real gas and the rest additives. It is 3.5% Oxygen and the legal limit on street gas is 2.9% . It has a minor supercharging effect because of that.

The Citgo 100 may not be legal either becasue it is dyed blue and labeled racing gas.

 

So is that 100 gas safe for the maxima engine??

ah....that's why there is no more 92...thought they tried to cut down cost and maintain the price. Glad that this summer the gas price didnt rock up sky high like last year (2.25 per gallon for 91)

 

It's been a week now since we had a thread on this topic. I was starting to get worried.

it says in the owners manual to use premium, ,and the gas does effect performance....if you look at the review in the newest sport compact car mag, they do a dyno with a 350z with different octane gas, ,and it makes a few hp difference

 

 

Well, I finally tried the 93 stuff... I definatly do feel more power and the engine works quieter.

 

I use only Chevron Supreme (93) here in the ATL (that'd be Atlanta).

And although I can't say as I've ever "stooped" to the 89 or lower - I feel that the extra $1 - $1.50 I spend for the premium on each fill-up is worth the piece of mind and subliminal performance gains.

My car goes faster after I wash and wax it too.....doesn't everybody's??!!

Moble 93 Octane all the time. Note on my gas tank area there is a note that says "FOR MAXIMUM PERFORMANCE USE PREMUIM GAS". I don't know if you guys max has this too...but mine is a 2001
