you know i thought the whole pupose for this forum was to help out the other maxima owners. not to be a smat @$$ all the time, its just a waste of time for you to write stupid stuff like you just wrote, not all of us just keep to a track or don't even race at all what ever you do. but thanks for your help you are very apprciated.

Thanks;
Mike

As for street racing:

It is against the rules to talk about it in this forum on a weekday. This thread will probably get locked.

I can't say I don't open her up now and then against others, but only in the safest of circumstances. (Like 1:00AM on an empty stretch of 4 lane freeway with no curves and 2-3 lanes between us kind of safe.)

So I'm not being a hypocrite and telling you not to do it, but I am saying NEVER do it if there is ANY chance of sidestreets, major curves, construction, traffic, etc, etc.

Look what happened to Ming. He's about to be put up on charges for vehicular manslaughter, and he's a nice guy. He was just doing some spirited driving on a backroad, not even racing for that matter.

Please, be safe man.

That being said:
Have you ever had a tuneup? New plugs, PCV Valve, Tranny Fluid, Fuel Filter, and Belt.

Secondly, put your car on a lift and bang hard on the Catalytic Converter. (Wear gloves if the pipes are hot, of course).

If you hear alot of rattle, your Cat is toast, but a High-Flow Cat.

Oh yeah...buy a dictionary and read it...you look as stupid as your above question.
Dude if i wanted your opinion if i should race on the street or not i would have asked you. so if you don't have an answer for my question above then don't bother posting anything. plus I'm very sorry to hear about you friends girlfriend. For one you don't even know if i was racing on the street or not so don't jump to conclusions. Also i live in Idaho were there are thousands of farms with no cross streets or house on them, its not like we were dragging down main street. so for now you can kiss MY ***!!!!

Things like this happen. If you're gonna be racing all the time, be prepared to lose to cars like this once in a while. How do you know it was straight piped? If it was then who knows what else he could have had (maybe spraying?). Just taking out the cat is not gonna give amazing power, if any at all. And btw Toyota makes MR2s, not Mazda.

Thanks for the advice, but one question, do you have to take your car to a dealer for a tune-up or is it something that you can do in your garage on a weekend.

if i came across like an @$$ my apoligies out to everyone,(sorry very bad speller) it's just been frustrating with this car if its not one thing going wrong its another, if you know what i mean, i just thought that people, would at least help with the question that i had, not make comments on what i was doing with out knowing the whole story also i don't race on the crowded streets i know that is to dangerous, i will always wait and tell the other driver to take it out to the roads were there is no traffic, we also make sure everyone but the driver is out of the car.

Well Mikey, I wonder if you really knew all that was modded on that 626. He might not have told you everything about his car. I don't think you came across like an ***. I think some people that have lost people to street racing may be particularly sensitive about it. I also didn't think that your thread was about street racing but about why your car wasn't performing up to your expectations. JerzeeMax is right he could be spraying. You could do your tune-ups yourself or you could have a dealer do it. You'll have to do a search for that one. You also might check out the How2 section at http://www.maximadriver.com/ Good luck.

You can do all that stuff yourself. Look in the MaxFAQ's. There's tons of information.

If you don't hear any noise/feel any resistance when rolling, I'd rule out your brakes. Are you a 5spd, or auto? Those 626's are much slower than a stock 5spd 4th gen, and they are only a little slower than an auto 4th gen.

There could be any number of things wrong with your car that would degrade performance. Dirty throttle body/bad plugs or wires/bad knock sensor... the list goes on and on.

I'd tune it up, clean the TB, then check the ECU for problems. I'm told the knock sensor can go bad w/o tripping the ECU, so you might want to check that too.

If, after all that, it still seems slow... take it to the track and practice!

BTW: I don't think this would be considered a racing thread either. He's basically asking about a loss in performance of his car. It's also silly to assume that he was racing in an unsafe manner.

Mike, Shawn here (in IF with the i30)

I think we chatted about this at my place the other day, I think that you should pull your codes and see if you have a bad KS. Also, those HEAVY 13lb Centerline Forged wheels could be sapping your speed! Give me a call and bring your car over, we can see what is up with it. I know how to pull the ecu codes, and it would just take a minute....all I want are your wheels!!

Oh, I got Progress Springs and Tokico Struts, and maybe some wheels on the way. Getting there!
