Use Premium gas for maximum performence::: true or false?

does it really make a difference between 89 94 gas?
except the fact that it's good for the engine

True, in the VQ's case, the ECU is programmed to take advantage of the higher octane fuel's resistance to detonation. It allows the use of advanced timing with a relatively high compression ratio to squeeze more power out of the engine. 87 octane can be used, as the engine has a knock sensor that retards the timing to prevent any damage, but this is at the expense of power. Depending on your driving style, this can also effect your fuel ecomomy.

racing fuel will do that!?! They sell it out here and I was going to use it once to see if there would be any performance diff, but if its going to screw up my cats, then never mind.

to me, as long as it's premium the car runs faster. my best time is run from cheap citgo 93 octane. my previous best was from expensive sunoco ultra 94. i've also run a couple disappointing passes on the expensive stuff. outside factors count a lot more than fuel, provided it doesn't clog your fuel pump/injectors. i've had that happen before. no fun at all.

I've always noticed a difference in around-town driving when running premium gas. Its better, cleaner, and really does contribute to getting the most out of your car. I have uncles who get 300 and 400k miles out of their cars with no problems, and they will tell you the reason why: "Change the oil every 3k, and always use premium gas".

TRUE, i feel a big difference in performance between plus and premium and i think 92 and more is recommended for MAXIMUM performance (just look on the gasoline lid). But i go to the cheap spots that sell like low 90's (highest i ever seen was 93) but the cheap gas seems to last a lot less than the expensive one...u think they purposely make it more liquidy or something?
