about a month ago i installed the K&N drop in filter, and i didn't notice it right away, but whoa sh*t i got stuck behind a roofing truck which was boiling roofing tar i guess and the stench came right into my car windows rolled up and with the little button on my dash which is supposed to mean that the car will use air from within the cabin instead of the outside depressed. is the filter causing this or what? never had this problem when i had the stock filter in, and the button that causes interior cabin air to be used always worked in those type of situations untill i removed it. by the way the ac wasn't on or anything and the fan was off, but you know how it is when everything is off but air from outside reaches the cabin if that button is set to use air from outside if you turn your fan or ac on. was i sniffing the roofing tar fumes too long or what?

It is nothing wrong with your K&N air intake filter. That is only air intake for the engine.
Check your "air flow control buttons". Anytime you have one of the defrosting modes (the two right buttons on manual climate control) the air recirculation button will automatically off. Those button for the "air flow control buttons" are that the ones that have symbol for the defrosting the windshield.
In the manual climate control, even the recirculation button is pressed, the recirculation is off automatically in these two modes. The light by the recirculation button will be off. I belive this is the same on the automatic climate control
So when you do not want to get air from outsite, make sure you have the "air flow control button" does not have the windshield symbol and press the air circulation button.

there is nuttin wrong with the K@N filter, that is only for the engine intake. You A/C, heater, etc.... all draw air in from that vent right below your wipers. If i was you, open the vent up to outside air and blast it on high for a few minutes to help get out any odors. If that don work go for a cruise on the highway and get some fresh air moving through the system, that should do the trick. Try maybe gettin one of those clip on fresheners for the vents too.

for all the suggestions. ok, this is what i came up with, there was a funky smell that just appeared ever since the tar truck but i blasted the air to get rid of the smell and i tried the lysol just a few minutes ago and that killed what was left. my main thing was answered by nimax so thanks, i was mostly wondering why the air was still coming thru to the cabin while i was driving. thanks for all your help guys!!!
