NGK makes great spark plugs, get their platinum series. It is probably a waste of money if you buy other types, i.e. Splitfire, etc.

I work at a Ducati/Aprilia Motorcycle dealership and we have dyno'd different bikes and setups, the best power is made by using NGK plugs and Exxon Premium gas. Ammoco Ultimate sucks, it makes for some nasty buildup

NGK Platinums...the same ones that came in your car from the factory.

www.courtesyparts.com sells them for about the cheapest i have seen.
http://vbxmaxima.8m.com/sparkplug.html on the install. and yes they are pretty to replace if you are handy. the one in the back right needs to have a bracket removed, but its not a big deal (just remove one nut)

Densos or NGK's ONLY! NO BOSCH! Although bosch's are standard equipment in benzes etc., they are not liked by your max! Stick to japanese. NGK are preferred and worth the expense!

This is a bit off subject, but how do you know if it's really time to change your spark plugs? What are the signs? Is it necessary to change them around 60k miles? I have about 65k miles on my car and haven't change them yet, but I haven't notice a difference in my car's performance. Sorry for going off subject a bit, thanks.

i would change them whenever you get the time. you may not feel the loss in performance because its a very gradual loss. i didnt think i needed to change mine either but i did just to stay on maintenence, and it restored the power back and ran a lot smoother. not to mention i got 1-2 mpg back!

I second Requin6's comments...changed mine along with air filter and saw a 3mpg increase on my last trip out west.

Definately do the NGK's, Mike. Your dealer hookup can definately get them cheaper. The dealer carries the NGK Plats because they are OEM for our cars. Hollar at me and we can put them in!

Seriously, Exxon Premium makes the most HP, burns well also...Ammoco Ultimate was good when it first came out, but they have taken all of the good stuff out of it, plus it can gum up everything.

Get Exxon/Mobil!

It seems that I remember getting good results out of Texaco too, maybe thats why they seem to charge more for their gas

I heard gas additives change from state to state. The base octane and formula stay the same just additives for smog and enviromental factors can be different, from state to state. So say NY gasoline won't be the same exact formula as IN gasoline. This is what I have heard. So logically these additives could lessen or add to deposits in our Maximas?

Your right and the the stupidest thing I ever heard of. Did you know in 1994 or 1996 there were only 6 different gas blends for the country. Since 2000 there is over 90 different blends for the country. And people wonder why we were paying so gas a coulpe of summers ago. All those blends hurt supply. I say why don't they just pick the cleanest blend and use that as the new standard.
