I Hate You Guys!

well not really...
after reading some threads i think i've finally made up my mind... time to sell the accord... and start looking for a black 98+ maxima SE 5spd. other choices i had in mind... 97-98 240sx, 99-00 civic hatch, 99-01 integ

a few questions

when did nissan redesign the bumpers, tail lights, trunk? my bro has a 96 maxima and i dont like how the trunk is indented and the tails on the newer 4th gens look cleaner

and if it comes down to it and i can't find a 5spd, how much is it to convert an auto max to a 5spd?

lastly, any thing in particular to look out for when searching for a used max? cuz i know with 5th gen accords theres rusting problems in the quarter panel and sh*tty power window motors

a tribute to my beloved accord...

edit: how the hell do u post pics???
nevermind got it

Keep looking...

Be patient and find a 97 5spd. Don't bother with a Auto/Man Swap.

Do it right from the start and be patient. Find it, buy it and

enjoy the ride.

Re: I Hate You Guys!

redesign came in the 97 model year, don't think there are any rust issues with a max....there has been a recall for 97-98 alternators though, but that should be free at any nissan place

Bumpers and a few other things changed in 97.

Unfortunately, you need to find a 5 speed. Expect to pay in excess of $1000 for the 5 spd. swap.

Things to look for on the 5 spds is leaking around the axles on the tranny. Theres some problems with improper shims that can cause premature bearing failure.

I like the way your Accords looks... I think the sideskirts and rear valence stand out a little too much but nothing that can't be changed. As for the suspension, there is a good bit of aftermarket support (2 coilovers/4 struts/6+ springs/RSB/FSTB/RSTB/SFCs/bushings) but it will never handle like the Accord mod for mod. You're starting out with an independent rear suspension with the Accord, an immediate +10.

There are lots of options for suspension. Modded vs Modded, the maxima is the superior handling car.

You really think so? Over an IRS 5th Gen Accord?

thanks sil SE and vyrus
yea, i agree on the rear lip... but this lip (wings west) was the cleanest one i could find. and as for the side skirts... dunno what ur talking about maybe its cuz of the pic, but in person they dont stick out at all. the other ones i've seen, combat and M3 skirts, are horrible! they stick out like 3 inches. i would've gotten the mugen side skirt to match the mugen style front bumper i have on, but it looked stock to me
oh yea, and i didnt wreck it its just that its nearing the 150k mile mark and i figure i'd be better off trying to sell it now... compared to selling it in a few years later when its 200+ k miles... then NO ONE will buy it. but all that work and time i put into her, i really hate to have to let her go...

Yes. Out of the box they both understeer off into oblivion, but once modded I feel the max rotates much better, and IRS isnt much use on a road course unless it has severely broken pavement. Also if you want to get rid of the understeer on either car, you need a nice RSB, but you put an RSB on the accord and there goes your IRS, it becomes a sort of quasi-IRS sort of thing. I've ridden in both on road courses, and I'd take the handling of the modded max over the modded accord in a race. The max is also lighter, which helps too.
