Something fell off from my car on freeway

Hi

It's a 93 Maxima, and other day when I was driving on a freeway something (its 2.5' x 1' semi cylindrical iron covering)fell off from my car from the body beneath. It was hanging on in the bottom till I pulled off to the shoulder. Now when I took this think to a local mechanic, he just shrugged off saying this was a lower covering of catalytic converter and i should not worry about it. He said that there is another covering to it which I should check. I could not really follow what he meant by that. But I am still curious to know what exactly it could be??

I bet your car sounds like mine with the test pipe on it!

Sorry for resurrecting this thread - I figured it's better than starting a new one! My cat cover fell off and I was wondering if anyone has put theirs back on. I was thinking of ordering the two brackets that connect it to the underside. Either that or get some clamps and secure it that way. Any suggestions?

The people on this forum would rather you open a new thread. Unlike the steam forums.

I removed mine when i punched out my cat. I wouldnt bother putting another back on, it would prolly get scrapped off again if you lower your car.

My cat cover fell off last week, & was grinding, so I pulled over & pulled it off & threw it away......less weight=more speed! & gas savings! (LOL)!

FYI its pointless to gut a car unless its clogged. It doesnt add power because its not a very bad restriction. It does take away TQ and pollutes and is illegal.

it sounds kind of shhtty too, but i like having it off because the cat used to heat up and make my shifter stiff even with the heat shield on.
