1997 aftermarket ECU without CEL on
1997 aftermarket ECU without CEL on
I have attempted to search and find more info on this subject. One major problem is that you cannot search 97, but rather 1997. I wish to compile some info here on getting an ECU, such as the new awesome deal on the GForce ECU. I am planning on testing with Cheston's ECU he is selling. So far I know is that you need a 96 ECU to accomplish this. Upon just changing the ECU, you get CEL (Check Engine Light) still. It appears to be the rear oxygen sensor. Since my rear oxygen sensor is bad, I figure I will go ahead and try replacing mine with a 96. Is there any other issues I may have? Anything that would need to be changed to a 96 part as well while I am at it?
Also, will my dealer know I have a non stock ECU upon going in for service or if something goes bad under my extended warrenty?
Any information would be appreciated! Thank you.

1. if you keep your old ecu, which you will since you have a 97, just swap back the ecu and wha-la. no dealer problems.
2. CEL: will come on for 0707. swap out the o2 to a 96.. or try 95 ECU in the 97.

Let us know if you do install a '96 rear O2 sensor on your '97. Til now I don't think anybody else has. There was something different about the wiring harness between a '97 and '96. Maybe the '97 is a heated sensor? Anyway document your install for us so we can all benefit! Thanks.
Sorry for getting anyones hopes up. I ended up not getting the ECU from Cheston... I also ended up putting in a 97 o2 sensor to replace my bad one. Once I find a job now after getting this degree and start making money, then I may look into this again. I haven't installed my MEVI anyway.
OT: Can anyone get me a decent job?
