A couple of things come to mind, 1. is the flow control valve moving when you go from hot to cold or cold to hot? 2.Are the air control doors working, if air isn't passed through heater radiator you get no heat either. I'll bet a cup of coffee on number 1 or its controls.

Mine did too, I dont know what to do about it, before 32 (digital) was blistering hot, enough to cook an egg. now I only get !hot! air when I'm going on the highway with a warmed up car and using the dash vents only (can't use floor/combo/windsheild vents or else cold air would blow instead)

Right now I drive with the tips of my fingers (too cold to touch steering wheel)

Yes, my system is definatly FUBAR, I want to try to fix it myself this summer... that'd be intresting

I saw 2 good ideas on this thread, which would not be Maxima specific, and those were the heater core and control valves. But here's another question (gasp)--do you have auto climate? That would complicate things. I have it, and from what I can observe, that controls the vents, the heater, and the fan. If you have that, it introduces an electronic element as well. Mine often switches fan speeds without me doing anything, while the da** thing is on MANUAL!! I've learned to live with it.

I would assume that whether you got auto climate or not the heater control valve would be the same. What commonly happens is that begins leaking (not Max specific) and the coolant doesn't make it to the core. But you will start seeing wet carpeting etc. Anti-freeze is a nasty material to deal with, so be wary of any leaks. good luck.

My money is on clogged heater core, unless its a late model max with the auto stuff in which case it may be sensor.... Our old van showed all those same symptoms, drove prefect, engine never overheated but no hot air would blow... I disected the old core and the tubes were all corroded and filled with gunk preventing hot coolant from flowing... If your core is clogged you may be in for a new radiator as well
