loud screeching noise from left channel - bose IV gen.
Today I turned on my Bose stereo and suddenly there was a loud screeching sound from the left channel (from front only I think). The other speakers seem to be working but the noise from the left speakers is overpowering. The volume control, balance, etc don't help - the noise is always ON if the stereo is powered up. Has anyone else had this problem? My dealer says the radio will have to be sent for repair at a minimum cost of $250 and an additional service charge of $75. I am thinking to have the radio removed (for $37) and will take a look at it myself. Please let me know your advice.
hey! i got that same problem with the BOSE radio in my I30! Whenever i turn it on, it screeches like crazy... a minute later, it just didnt play music no more. The HU was on and working, but no sound...
I instantly thought that the individual amp for each speaker could be blown.. So i check the fuse panel for BOSE amp fuse (not the AUDIO one.. thats for the HU) and it was blown.. So i replaced it.. turned it on.. played fine.. then screeching noise 10 secs after.. looked under.. fuse blew AGAIN!
So searched all over for crossed or shorted wires.. none.. But the problem was isolated to the rear right speaker/and amp... I unplugged the harness for that rear speaker under the amp.. and the speakers play perfectly...
So what you might have to do is unplug the harness and alternate unplugging each harness to isolate which speaker is going weird.. then it may have to be replaced (both speaker and amp)..
I still have no got mine repaired.. just playing it ghetto styles with only 3 speakers.. :P

Thank you for your response.
Next morning, I was about to check the fuses, but on turning on the radio, I found it worked fine! The problem has mysteriously gone away. The only thing I can think of now is that it could be moisture related. I did have the front windows rolled down a bit yesterday and the car was parked in the rain. I wonder if water gets in through the switches on the door. Anyway, next time the radio starts screeching again, I will check the fuses promptly.
