A/C Question
A/C Question
Does anyone have any ideas on this one? I suspect the A/C - Heater control panel, as I know it has a problem with the fan control - speed 4 does work, unless you phuk around with it.
But the problem is, when I have the AC running, on a hbot day when it's needed, it'll usually only run for a short time, maybe 5 minutes, then it stops blowing cold air. The compressor doesn't cycle on at all. Sometime it'll run longer, but if I push the accelerator down hard, say to pass some id10t on the road, the AC then stops blowing again.
The weirdest thing is it works fine if the outside temp is under 75 degrees...
Any ideas, guys?

AC issue
Maxwgn,
I had an issue with my '86 that the AC turned on for about 1 minute then turned off. The problem was traced to the RPM sensor on the Compressor. It is a magnetic switch with a spring. You can get them at a junkyard for about 5$, just be careful, you can damage the internal spring buy throwing it around. It is screww mounted ontop of the compressor on the right side of the engine compartment. The other area beside the RPM sensor and your switch would be to replace the AC amplifier module which screwed (2) into the blower under dash above the passenger footrest area. It is a blue circuit board that has about 6-8 wires leading to it. Sometime that circuit board can do quirky things. I had replaceed this and the RPM sensor and had the car retr-fitted for the new AC and the unit runs flawlessly now. Good luck. One more are will be to check the Hi-Low switch for the unit as well. I can't remember where that is though. I'll post it later.

My 87 had that problem, it would periodically work, then not, same with the defroster. I think once you get to that point your looking at big bucks to fix, or replace it. I know it doesn't just need to be charged. This can be a major problem howver if your defroster acts up too, especialy if you frost or fog up while your driving. It's a very bad situation to get into.
Re: Re: A/C Question
Nah, the defroster etc...work OK...only the AC is effected.
One more thing i forgot to mention...
When it cuts out, if I turn off the AC (via the fan control or the push button), and then turn it back on, it blows cold again...
Thanks for the information sen8or...
