HELP! My sister has been driving around all day with the car overheating!

If left at idle the engine temp will drop back to normal. If accelerated, by about 20mph the gauge has topped out far above the H on the engine temp gauge. There was almost NO coolent in the radiator. She drove about 80 miles today. The whole time it was overheating. She tells me this afternoon. How bad do you think it is? I havent cranked the car to analyze it myself yet. What do you think she did? When my parents asked me all I could give them was the face of death.

Oh ya, 91 Maxima GXE. No options.

As long as you didn't blow a head gasket and you had good oil in it, you should be OK.

Yeah, I would agree. That's just weird behavior, 80 miles with the temp in H? I see crazy stuff sometimes. Like that elderly lady driving an E430? with 2 flats going down the road? Also some young dude driving his car with a total flat. It smells awful, I'm not sure what they were thinking.

My sister was supposed to change the petrolium based oil 2k miles ago. She neglected to do that. Now my parents have suceeded in yelling at me more than they have my sister. Why? Cause I told them what could be wrong. Fine. They want to be ignorant, let them. Their solution to the problem right now is get the oil changed. They wont listen to me when I tell them to have the mechanic check other stuff. Its not my car. When it blows up and they yell at me some more (for whatever reason they find necessary) at least I can say I warned them WAY ahead of time. I dont know why they blame me for everything, but at least this may make them listen.

Overheating your engine like that will dry them out then they'll blow. Overheating is bad stuff for gaskets.

If she was my sister she would be dead or she would have to buy me a replacement car since I wouldn't want it even after being repaired. Sucks what can you do it's family!

sorry to hear that, my sister did the same thing to my max. She ran all day on the interstate in my max. not knowing it didn't have any coolant. Then when the engine ran hot, she still drove till it smoked. Even after it started smoking she drove to see if she could make it home. The car soon died after that. The mechanic said the engine was gone. Now i have a remanufactured motor in my car and its ok. New radiator to replace the leaking one too.

overheating

your sister is bugging.
here is a list of possible problems for your car
1) the hoses connected to your radiator/waterpump could be done
2) your radiator/waterpump could be done.
3) you could have possible engine damage
4)as everyone said your gaskets could be done.

i have a 94 max and one time my car overheated i drove for two miles my radiator went and since i drove on it while still overheated it caused my waterpump to go. that was only two miles, you are talking 80 miles good luck you will need it.

That sounds kinda like what happened to one of my dad's clients last weekend. One morning my dad recieved a claim from a gas company on Cape Cod that they were being sued by numerous people. Turns out that one of the non-english speaking Gasoline tanker drivers put 87 Octane gas in the diesel hold at a gas station... For the next week they were getting calls about diesel trucks blowing their engines due to gasoline in the fuel tanks. In all, 14 customers ranging from a brand new F-350 Superduty to an old Mack septic-truck had blown engines due to the stupidity of the tanker-driver. What a week

That company's gonna be paying out a bunch of fat claim checks for that mistake!
