Mossy Nissan refused to advance the timing...

Took my 2K2 into Mossy to complete the recalls. While I was there, I thought I would increase the timing three degree as has been discussed on this board recently. I offered to pay for the hours required for this task, but the rep tried to make me beleive that the dealership was not allowed to change factory settings. I told him that plus or minus 3 degrees was within the spec and asked him to make an exception for me. I also added that other dealships have performed this modification. We got into a "discussion" about it and he kept spewing..liability for us...blah blah...detonation...blah blah...California is strict...blah..blah.

I reminded him that Mossy had a reputation of supporting aftermarket performace upgrades...And he just said....certified parts...blah blah blah...not timing...blah blah.

I also have an annoying rubbing sound in the back when I go over bumps and asked the them to look into it. They of course tried to blame it on the "aftermarket" muffler. I told them that was bullcrap...its coming from the struts. He said the technician didn't notice anything. I was about to drive him and the tech around to prove it to them, but I had another appointment. Never to return.

So anyone who beleives Mossy is different than the other dealers. Think again. Bad service, weak excuses, slow, and inexperienced.

Thanks Mossy.

I feel better now....

Do not think that that is unreasonable. If that is the factory setting why would they want to change it based on you request?

Its my car... I even offered cash no receipt so they weren't "liable".

Yeah Mike. I have gone to the Escondido dealer 2 times, and they are a bunch of MORONS ! Greg at Oceanside is real cool. He is also an ORG member...

Am I wrong or is advancing the timing on a car easy to do ...?? I did it before on my V8's myself.... How hard is it to do on a Max... ??

Pretty sure it requires a computer. I don't think the old strobe and screwdriver works on this car.... Not sure though..

Exactly forget talking to the service manager or whoever is at the desk. Walk into the service bay and find the Tech who is working on your car and talk to him on the side with a little $.

Yeah...I'll try that next time. I'd love to get my hands on one of those computers for a day. Hacking that ECU has been a pipe dream of mine for some time..
