1999 M3 vs 2k2 Max GLE?

What are the average times of the GLE with WAI and Y-Pipe? Coworker wants to race and I'd like to make a good showing.

Don't bother. You will get smoked. A 6-speed would lose as well.
Case closed.

You must not know M3's all that well then. The E36 M3's with a Manual tranny pull 14.6 stock and the auto's are in the mid 15's. A 2002 Auto GLE would lose but not a 6-speed SE Maxima.

Well, actually I know them quite well... I have a couple friends with M3's and they talk about them non-stop. While your 14.6 time is pretty close to what it should be...that time is easily achieved in an M3. For an SE 6-speed to get a time like that, the driver has to be near perfect in his launch and shifts. In a race from a stop, I would give it to an M3 8 out of 10 times against the SE 6-speed.

Like the my fellow .orgers above said M3, but you should do it just for the fun. Who knows the M3 driver may only be a half decent driver

If the M3 is manual and the driver is decent, buy yourself a sling for after the race. (no offense meant)

Stock 5 speed M3 and Stock 6 speed Max have the same exact 0-60 and 1/4 mile track times according to Car-stats.com. The max beats the M3 to 100mph. I can't seem to find any stats on the org with 2k2 Auto's with Intake and Y-Pipe. I thought I would at least be able to make a good showing. Thanks for the comments and keep the info coming.

I would agree that it is harder for the Maxima to acheive the better time because of it being FWD Harder to launch but if you had perfect drivers in both of those cars then the M3 would probobly lose.

It is always a drivers race. I beat a new e46 M3 in a lousy 1998 stock Lexus es300 on Friday night. The guy in the M3 could not drive it worth ****. Not only did he bog in 1st he also rode the clutch right after. He then shifted too early and grinded into 2nd. We obviously pulled ahead. Looked like he shifted to early again going into 3rd and by then we were way ahead. Actually let off the gas until he finally passed us about 1/2mile down. Very Very Sad indeed and a true story. Most of the jokers I see driving M3's can't drive them worth ****.

PS I also raced another e46 M3 a few months back in a highway run and I got smoked!

Stock vs Stock?

Very very close - I'm less than experienced when it comes to racing, and my buddy's got a '99 5spd. I watched as his taillights walked away through 1st and part of 2nd when I realled him in. Should I have gotten a better launch, I'd say it would be too close for the eye to call. Since then, he's modded quite heavily and I know I don't stand a chance... Good luck though. Stock vs Stock, it's a drivers race.

Why is the 99 the slowest year for the E6 M3? How would you know if you have a 98 which is 6 tenths of a second faster than the 99 M3?

I believe the 99 M3 is pretty much the same as the 97 M3 (another E36), which is good for a low 5 second 0-60 time with a 14 flat (@100mph) 1/4 mile time when equipped with a 5sp manual tranny.

I've already faced off against three of them (street) with my 2K2 SE auto and have had my **** handed to me on each of these three occassions.

I suspect that the 6speed Max would make that contest much closer but IT would also probably get beat by the E36, all things equal. Smart money's on the Bimmer.

Peace.

According to www.car-stats.com both cars with stick have identical times with the Maxima getting to 100mph quicker. Car and driver I believe is where they got there times from. I just thought it funny that each year before 99 it was 5.7 or 5.4 seconds 0-60.

i've got 2 friends w/ 98 e36 m3's and they both run 14.2-14.3 consistently. i've got a 2k1 and am able to get a 15.19 w/ just intake. ran one of them though, he had a bad launch...we were pretty even up to top of 2nd, but once in third, the thing just walked me and put a couple car lengths on me. of course, i don't have a 2k2 but i'd like to seen someone run consistent low 14's.

I would have to give it to the M3. The Max is fast, but the M3 has something else about it. I don't know what it is.

i think some of the people here are thinking about the new M3 when they say he will get killed or smoked. i will have to give this race to the M3 but you wont loose by that much, a few more mods and u should be running with him. watch out for newer ones though, mid 13's stock
