One of the best races so far........ read if you have time

It all started on a cool night a few weeks ago. I was on my way home that night and all of a sudden this car behind me accelerates and was 1/2 a car length ahead. There was a stop light ahead and we both were next to each other. But I lined up my front bumper to the back of his wheels. Before I continue let me tell you about my car and his.

It is a '92 se 5 spd, stocked to the bone and on top of that an exhaust leak.

His car on the other hand is a toyota celica early 90's (90-93). From what I saw and heard on the outside he had a fart pipe and i'm just gonna assume it is modded.

Anyways we were both at red light with him being a little over 1/2 a car length ahead of me. He revved up his engine and the light turned green. We were off. Within 5 sec I caought up with him and began walking him and did so for about another 5 sec. Then a few more secs I was ahead of him by 1/2 a car length before I had to stop at at red light.

I felt the adrenaline rushed throughout my body. That night I felt sooo good. The best drug ever.

That night was perfect, no cars, no people. Just me, him and the road.

you picked on a car with anywhere from 103 to 130hp (i doubt it was an all trac or he most likely would've walked you since it was modded) and weighs only a few hundred pounds less than your VE. Great kill

oh yeah this thread sucks

Thanks chris, and as for this thread sucking.....sure I'll give you that. I don't expect this thread to be here long anyways. But I just wanted to clear something up. He wanted to race with me. I knew what kind of car it was but the look on his face just made me wanna show him what 3rd gen cars are made of. I also wanted to see how the car would perform with an exhaust leak.

It has been 5 days since I last drove the max and it's killing me. Right now it's in for repairs and i'm stuck with a 98hp tercel. (aka lawnmower with radio)

If you're gonna get reminded of the fact that you can't post this here and have your thread locked, at least make it a better race

Did you start off in third gear? You should have walked him and conserved gas at the same time.

I've only owned the max for about three months now and that was my first race. Before that I owned a 1991 toyota tercel. I could not accelerate if my life depended on it. It moved as fast as grandma getting out of her rocking chair. And now that I own a maxima I have power, much more power than before.

I didn't really care what kind of car it was, the main thing was that I could accelerate and actually make my head touch the back of my chair involuntarily. The transition was like going from a lawnmower to a nascar. Some of you guys may not understand what it's like, since your first car may have been the max. But for those who owned a geos, prisms, tercels, etc... then got an awesome car such as the max, it's incredible. That's all.

I'm right with you on this one....

Sure it's an easy car to kill, but the issue is how much faster this car is than the previous one you had. I agree completely. I used to own a turtle, I mean tercel too (1984 wagon, super slow). I can imagine what the difference is like to you.

In fact, I did a lot of overmatched killing when I first got my VE 5 spd. It feels good, especially that head to the back of the chair thing.

Also, I can honestly say that this car makes my old one (a highly modded VG 5spd) seem like the tercel.

correction

I didn't say go out and drive like a grandma. I love those moments of head against the seat acceleration too. I was just saying, why post it here. When I first got here I posted something like this, and learned how it was. But, now we have the sticky about posting kill stories so it really shouldn't happen. And since I've had my VE 5 speed I've become an advocate of racing on the track and not the street. If you post kill stories it will promote others to go out and race too and someone could end up getting hurt or killed. Don't believe me just go check out the sticky in the general forum about the most recent lose in the org. And there are plenty more besides that. Have fun with your VE, but be sure to keep safe and follow the moderators policies here.

Oh yeah, one more thing. I know what's its like to make the transition. So far I have owned:
1982 Ford F150, 1988 Nissan Stanza wagon, 1993 Ford Escort wagon (5 speed!), 1995 Mazda B2300 pickup, and finally 1992 Maxima SE 5 speed.
The only other fast vehicles in the family were the old 5 speed Xterra SE and the current 3.5 Pathfinder auto. My VE is definatley the fastest out of the bunch (the Pathy is so close for an auto though).

That's a good way to do it. Learn how to drive well in an underpowered car, then up the horsepower... you won't get in as much trouble. My first car is an '84 Toyota Celica GT with 105hp, but only about 2500 lbs. Things handles verey nicely, but was slow! That didn't stop me from autocrossing it a few times, and once I got a better time than a Viper, with street tires!

It was a very curvy course with almost no straight sections
