Momo ****'s ?? Do They GetTyte :)

I cut my Pacesetter STS and I need to buy a **** for it now...I went into my local performance shop in town and spent $50.00 on what I thaught was going to be a half way decent **** for spending 50 bones...Well the thing sucks...I put it on and it was tyte, then it loosened up where the **** came to the shaft so I put some epoxy in there and it was fine for like 5 days until the little tiny screws that hold the whole assembaly to the shaft, loosened up and its been like that for months...I cant stand it...
I have been looking at the momo ball with the gunmetal and the leather down the sides. Will this one loosen up like this last one I had or is the fasteners different?? I know there expensive but im getting my money back for this one already and I want a good one

I have a chrome $25 shift *** from Pep-boys which looks really good. Matches my chrome door handeles.
Anyway, I also cut my shifter and had problems with the *** losening up every few days.
To fix the problem I had to file the top of the cut end to be round. This way the *** fit on it properly. Is the inside of the *** and your cut end the same shape? If not then make them so.
Also the small screws happend to be contacting the shifter at a bad spot. It was where the old boot holder was. You probably don't have that on the pacesetter, I don't know. So I cut the *** and extra 1/4" to avoid the bad contact spot.
Then used a little electrical tape to give the *** a tighter fit around the shaft.
Has not loosend up since. That was months ago.
Don' know if this helps but maybe someone can use it when doing a search down the road.

It sounds like the momos you're talking about are universal ***** (With the screws).

Why not get a **** that matches the nissan thread length? It's not like it's hard to find what you want, seeing as how Mazdas have the same thread length (ie, miata shift *****...I mean, if there's one community that regards the shift **** as holy, its these guys).

I had a Momo shift **** in my cherokee...

Actually, I had one like Nick Stam has, and it NEVER moved, even when shifting hard, racing, etc. It was on there for 2 years, and I never had to retighten or anything. Actually, my **** had the perforated leather on the whole ball, bit just the top. It was MAD expensive, but feels great. Actually, it is just sitting in its box at home, b/c I no longer own a 5-Speed...

Like this one? (It's not the clearest shot).

If so, I haven't had any problems with it loosening up for the 1 year I've had it on. I think there's one single set-screw that keeps the **** firmly in place. It's got a tapered front that anchors the **** right "into" the shaft. The Momo also comes with 4 different sizes of rubber boots to help center the **** onto the shaft.

Just search the net for miata shift *****. There's quite a bit of 'em.

I'm a fan of Team Voodoo *****, www.teamvoodoo.com . I'd buy a ball shifter for the max, but it just doesn't look right to me in the sedan

SMC and OE same thread?

I bought an SMC short shifter a while back, and one of the reasons why I am hesitant to install is because I want a shift **** that will thread onto it, as opposed to using those universal screws.

Does anyone know whether the SMC short shifter has the same threading as the oe?

Sorry, but I can't. If it were not "special" to me, I would let it go, but my wife bought it for me before we were married, and spent too much for it. PLUS, she remembered me picking it out months before and saying that I wanted it, but that it was too expensive. In the end, she suprised me with it at a time in our relationship when we did not have money to spare to spend on that kind of thing. So now it sits until I can buy a 5-speed to put it on.

well the ball shaped ***** seem to be alot more popular... but i bought mine becaues it was carbon fiber... now i wish i had a carbon fiber dash kit! but it still matches w/ the black interior =)

btw- the momo boot fit perfect, no cutting involved... but recently the boot somehow got detatched from the **** so that the top of the boot slides down just a little beat, revealing the metal shaft. kinda annoying when the tranny is hot and my hand touches that metal. no burns tho, just stings I gotta get that fixed

i just made the boot fit nice and snug, you have to tuck it underneath the shifter trim. It's longer than needed.
