Hi guys,

It's about time to rotate my tires. I hear people talk about taking them to be balanced. Is this an important step or should I just rotate and drive on? I haven't noticed any uneven wear/vibration to date.

there is no scheduled interval on having your wheels balanced.

Usually, this is done once, when tires are mounted onto the wheels.

what can happen is, a weight can fall off and that would cause some vibration..

Just swap the front wheels for the back ones and see if you get any vibration at around 70-80 mph. If it's fine, then there is no need to do anything..

 

This is some advice... it's related to what you're asking. If I were you, I'd consider getting a "tire protection plan" . I'm sure ure local tire shops have em. It's about 40-50 bucks on all tires and basically you pay it once and you get a lifetime warranty for free replacement whenever they get flat and also free rotating/balancing for life. It's best to buy em w/ the tires but if you want to get that as an extra, it's really worth it. I have Pirelli SS7000 and since i like to take turns fast sometimes, I get them rotated frequently (about 3k miles) to make em last longer. I ended up paying like 45 bucks to insure those. Really good deal. good luck

 

COSTCO will rotate your tires and balance them for $16.00 for all 4. That works out to $4.00 per tire. I have used them, they did a nice job. Make sure they hand torque them to 80 ft lbs. I would't rotate them for $16.00 let alone rotate and balance.

 

i think ill be stopping by costco's after work today....im in dire need of balancing/rotating.....hopefully itll just fix all my problems in one fail swoop.....stupid vibrations ~60->

 

Tires fall out of balance naturally due to heat cycling. You'd be surprised even after 6 months how might be out of balance already.

 

Ok then, the tires were on the car when I bought it and there's no built-in plan with them. But it sounds like it's inexpensive to get the rotate and balance deal.
