Who has a 96 ECU in their 97?

I have had the JWT ECU in my 97 Max for over a year now and I just wanted to know if anyone else is having the same problem I am. I can't get my car to pass inspection now with the 96 ECU, so I am going to have to swap back my 97 ECU and hope I can get it to pass. It is becoming more of a headache than a good thing with the different year ECU. Anyone else with problems like this from a different year ECU?

Sorry I don't have an answer, but does the CEL come on w/ the '96 ecu in? I want to do an ecu upgrade, but not if it sacrifices functionality of the CEL.

I think 96 ECU in a 97 throws a rear o2 sensor code.

If you want to get rid of your JWT ECU I'll buy it from you.

You would? Well I have been considering selling it. Mine also has the 65 shot NOS program with it. Would you be interested in that as well?

How come you can't pass inspection? Is it because of emissions?

The computer when I'm getting it tested can't pull info from my modified ECU. The report keeps saying "not ready" on items like cat converter, O2 sensors and things like that. So I need to swap back to my original ECU. That is why I am thinking of selling my JWT ECU, to much hassle for a 97 Max IMO.

You know it could be the emissions center that is the problem. Nissan uses a different code than say the domestic market cars. For example a code reader for Ford/GM/chryselr won't read a nissan/toyota/madza car. I've seen this happen on other import cars while I had my truck tested. As long as your you don't have a MIL code you should pass.

What state do you live in? I don't think they do any of that stuff at a NJ inspection. Does anyone know for sure though?

Just sell your ECU to Nealoc....you can then claim that you helped him get into the 13s

I live in Salt Lake City, UT. I have tried 3 other places to try and get it passed and I know they made sure it has no problems with imported vehicles. Still no luck. Oh well, I guess it's back to stock for me on my ECU.

That does bring up an area of concern, us here in Maryland also has to do the "pull the codes from the ECU to pass emissions" once every 2 years. A modified ECU probably will not work right.

Did your CEL come on when you had a 96 ECU in the 97? I also have a 97.

My CEL came on after I had the ECU in the car for a few months. I never found out for sure if the JWT ECU would pass emissions in my 97. From what I understand, from others who have the ECU, it will not pass. I can never get a solid response from JWT, they always say they will get back to me, but never do.

I have a 95 JWT ECU in my 1997 Maxima and I passed inspection with no problem. I live in NJ and they are pretty strict here. If I remember correctly, I dont think the emissions are effected when they moddify the ECU, not totally sure about this though. With the JWT ECU installed I always get the same code 0707, which is the Rear O2 Sensor. Other than that I have had no problems with it. I would just say switch the ECU's to pass inspection. Good Luck

Anybody dyno the JWT?

Does anybody have any hard dyno figures for the '96 JWT running in a '97?

Why does the rear O2 sensor code appear? There must be a way to get it to "read" correctly and turn off the code.

Too much trouble to unplug the '96 ECU and plug in the '97 ECU once ever two years?
