Got the Black on Black 98 GLE!

All right guys,at first I was considering getting this car

Should I get this '98 Black on Black GLE?
http://forums.maxima.org/showthread....hreadid=154487

I paid $10k for it in VA, it has 77k miles, as I had promised phenryiv1 here are the pics.

It came with the all the standard options ie power everything leather the optional accessores are power sunroof and ABS.

My only concern as you can see above is the rust on the metal behind the steering wheel, do any of you guys have the same problem as well?

Looks good.

1. I wouldn't worry about the rust.
2. What kind of phone holder is that?
3. Are you going to get Nissan fogs?

The phone holder is from a multi acessory pack I bought from ebay.

As for fog lights, the stock ones look kinda boring, which other fog lights can I consider, I'd like round ones with a frame to fit the socket well.

Nah, I'm doing no mods like exhaust, clear corners or alteeza's, IMHO they look pretty gay.

Oh yes, and I love the way it drives, the power I can get on ramps into highways, power seats and sunroof are pretty sweet too.

Rust at this unusual place looks very suspicios. Investigate if this car had been flooded. Check www.carbuyingtips.com how to tell if car had been flooded and of corse Carfax. Good luck with the car.

I did all sorts of funky things with my other car before it got totalled.

All I may do to this car is add a CD changer, put in birghter/white bulbs (any suggestions?) fog lights, and different alloy's.

Is it adhesive mount or does it attach behind the dash panel?

GLE powah

Looks good, clear corners definately look good on black, but the orange corners are ok too as they add just enough contrast.

You got a good price, I paid $11.5k last December and I thought that was a good deal!

Congrats on your new ride

Sweet ride, Exactly like mine same year and same color and its a GLE. although theres one thing I DONT like about yours....and thats the Gold Emblems from Nissan and the gold words MAXIMA on yours, I didnt wnat my car if it had gold on it./ It had to be chrome. although, U can change that And uhh, Clear corners arent gay. You really need them on your black max cause if you dont have them, the orange ones are the gay ones.

Nice to see that you got it. Basically, your car is the antithesis of mine (Tan & Pebble Beige GLE). Looks GREAT. I looked all over for a balck on black, but this one came up forst (at a similar price, w/ 58K this summer). I would not worry about the rust. I will look at mine, but it can be from a bad run of steel at the factory fot just that one particular part. Keep your eyes on things, but I doubt it is a big deal. Take a better pic of it and post it if you get a chance.

Remember, all of the mods that you do are to customize your car how you want it. I just took OFF my CAI b/c i did not like it. If you don't want clear corners, don't get them. I would like a set, but i can think of other things I want more (AE pedals/deadpedal, SE cluster, 97+ Center console, subwoofer system), so the clears wait. Same with fogs- get what you want, not what others have. I value how quiet my car is, so I will not be doing any mods that make it louder, like intake or exhaust.

About your rims and tires- whatever happened with the dealer replacing the worn tires? What did he put on there? BTW, if you decide that you want SE rims like mine, I may be selling mine in the next few weeks (w/o tires). It would be close enough to do a drop-off or pickup. I knwo that you just got it, but it took me only 3 weeks to get the mod bug and add my first toys (the rims and tires).

hehe what do you mean you THINK ... they are '02 GXE rims, did you put them in your self, or did u get the car with them .... 400 for all 4!?!??! Nissan quoted me $650 a wheel, and a small time shop $250 a wheel.

Voltman:
It's an adhesive mount, the front is just your normall waist holster for cell phones that can be clipped on to an adhesive hook.

JetBlackMax:
Apparently you could get the gold emblems if you paid extra for the "gold package", the gold one's are not that common so I like it.

lucky_77:
I see no other tell tale signs for flooding like marks in the hood replaced carpet, no fishes in the trunk (mechanhole!), I know the car came with mats but those are missing, but THE RUST IS WEIRD, any one else have it? ORBITT thanks for the carfax, autocheck gave me the same info.

Now some one please tell me what bright/white bulbs can I replace the stock ones with don't want to pay for HID's. Any suggestions for foglights other than stock that fit the socket well?

If I add a CD changer to the Stock BOSE, will it be FM modulated or directly connected?

Thanks!!

True I appreciat the quite ride as well and will not PAY $$ to make it noisy, right now what I want is just birghter lights, thank for the offer for the rims, but I prefer the looks of the 5th gen spoke rims, I'm wondeirng if I can put in the 5th gen fog lights as well

The dealer said he would replace the tires if they failed MD state inspections (they didn't) 2 were pretty new and even the guy at costso was like "son, you don't need new tires" the dealer put in 4 new brake pads and said he couldn't do more as it had started to really cut on his profit.

You can find them online (eBay) or on the .org for about $400 a set. These wheels look good, but are not in high demand like SE rims (4th or 5th Gen), so they are cheaper to find.

My GLE had gold centercaps on me stock rims. I hated them (rims and centercaps) so I ditched the whole package. The emblems are chrome, though (soon to be removed, painted gunmetal, and replaced).

Syllvania Silverstars ($50 a pair) are good, but for a lot less you can get Phillips Cool Blue lights ($18 a pair @ wal-mart) or a lower-priced sylvania blue-ish bulb set. I don't remember their name, but they are about the same price as the phillips set. There was a thread on them this week or last. Just stay w/ stock wattages, unless you want to pay $25+ for a headlight wiring upgrade...
Try this thread here for more headlight upgrade information.

If you get the Bose or factory-optional changer from somewhere like JRNissan, it will be direct-connect. Other than that, I think you will have to go FM modulated.

I know nothing about the fog lights. I have factory lights and plan to leave them that way.

Como se dice "flood car"?

Open your front doors and look at the bolts on the hinges...if they are rusty too you VERY likely have a car that was underwater for a little while...you aren't from texas are ya? Not all cars in floods have flood titles. Only if they were totalled by an insurance company.

Wohhhoho, no rust else where just nice glossy black paint around the hinges, the car hasn't been in Texas, it's been in PA, NJ, Arkinsas, and now in MD.

phenryiv1 thanks for response it answers just about all my questions.

I imagine you are just fine then!

You oghta pull the steering column off and take care of that. Almost looks like any passenger getting in the car will notice that!
